1 DIN Radio + Button Panel?

Has anyone ever attempted to replace a factory 2 DIN stereo with a 1 DIN, then use the remaining space (1 DIN) as a button panel for things like off road lights, etc.? I'm looking for pictures or details how to go about this if it is possible. I can't seem to find anything on the net like this.

I'm not sure either, but thank you! I've been looking everywhere. Now I can get a feel of what I need after seeing the pictures . Knowing what to look for on the net, I found a different type of face plate for the stereo with a 1/2 DIN pocket:

I just need to find one with a blank plate over the pocket that I can put some switches into, and *presto* all set.
