Exclamation 2012 JKUR - 10.4 city MPG really?!

Since i got the jeep, Its seems like ive been getting terrible gas millage. From and to work is all side streets. I live on Long island, so its alot of lights and stop signs. The window stocker said 13-16 for city. But 10.4? This cant be right?

It may or may not be accurate. How many miles have you been driving since you reset the mileage calculator? The reason I ask is that if you just reset it, its probably not correct. The longer you drive, the closer it will get to your true mileage, from what I have experienced. Either way, I would keep up with the miles driven and calculate it manually.

I'm with Daggo. If you are getting such bad numbers, either your tires are low, your new O2 sensor is shot (unlikely), or you are thrillin' to the power of your new motor, and trying to show all suckers they can get to your side at red lights. Avoid jackrabbit stars.... take it easy... ...and check those tires!

Check your mileage manually as well and see how it synchs up with the 'puter. Also the EPA is nothing but an estimate...you will likely be above or below those figures to some degree due to the many variables. I agree with the suggestions noted above...change your driving habits and see what happens. I wish you luck as 10 mpg would get expensive quickly. I get 18mpg in my 2010 JK 2 door.

i dont know how much more "grandma" like i can drive. trust me I dont beat on it. the tires though, is one thing i have not checked. I report back with what they were at.
It does though only have 550 miles on it. is it still breaking in and using more gas?

break in won't affect it that much. Check the tires. If that's not an issue, calculate the mileage by hand. There could be a computer issue.

I have been averaging 18.2 mpg in my 2012 JKUR, according tot he computer. Just got it a few weeks ago. Up to 1450 miles so far. I think it might be a driving style thing too.

"heyray" had the same problem with his 2012. He reported that, after following the dealers recommendation to disconnect the battery, his mileage went from 12.5 MPG on an 800 mile highway trip, to 16 MPG city!

Disconnecting the battery (and turning on headlights to discharge the capacitor that helps retain memory) should dump your on-board computer's memory and give you a fresh start.

Pomz, Im 100% big city driving like you. stop & go constantly. i was getting 13.6 at first, now 14.1. You shouldnt be that bad. Try getting the mileage keeper app to calculate manually, see if theres a difference in numbers.

The computer is usually off on most but usually not by a whole lot. Saying that, I have heard of 2012 models being way off. Before you do anything you really should check it by hand.

If I'm a lead foot I can rock 11 mpg based on the dash. But usually with my 09 I don't jump past 2500 rpms and the mpg display will be around 13.5-14. Not sure the decent rpm rate for the 12 though.

The only way I can really find my mpg though is old school math when filling up. Try doing that. :P
