2015 oil filter orientation

When changing the oil filter in a 2015, does the "pointed" end of the oil filter go into the oil filter cap or does the "pointed" end go down into the oil filter housing in the engine?

The pointed end goes down into the oil filter housing in the engine.

Be sure to change the big o-ring which goes around the filter cap, and rub it up with a bit of motor oil. Don't over-torque the cap.

Thanks for the info. I figured it would only fit one way but appreciate the confirmation.

snap the filter onto the cap first, then insert filter with cap

Question already answered, without one in front of me... I'm trying to remember if it would be possible to get it to fit the wrong way.
Anyway, its "nub" down. Flat end snaps/seats into cap.

I just changed my own oil for the first time (been taking it to a local place) and when I took off the oil filter cap, the filter was in all crooked. I tried to pull it out and out came the filter, the spring, and the snap-on piece. The "mechanic" had put my filter in nub-side into the cap and just shoved it all back together the wrong way! So, hoping no damage done to my engine, but when I finished draining the oil and replacing the filter, the housing in the cap wouldn't go back together correctly because a plastic piece broke off where the spring holds the snap-on piece. I placed the filter nub-side into the engine end and tried to put the cap housing back together as best I could and tightened the cap back in place. Long story made short, I'm trying to find a replacement part and am having a hard time. 2015 Sahara Unlimited. Is this what I need to order?

Engine Oil Filter, Adapter/Cooler 3.6L [ERB] - CAP KIT, Oil Filter Housing - 68191350AA | Mopar

Not many details to ensure me the part I'm hoping for is what will show up at my door if I order this. Just looking for reassuring from you fine folks.

THANKS!!!!

I would recommend taking it to a Jeep dealer and usually the Mopar Parts guys/gals are very knowledgeable/helpful (at least in Texas) to see what you need. Many times they will go out in the parking lot to have a look to help you out as well.

Another reason to change your oil yourself...

Yes, another reason to do it yourself. It's much cheaper, and it is easy to do. I'm waiting for my next oil change to install my new Fumoto valve.

I had a similar problem, and replaced the cap.

Related.... during this oil change I also switched to synthetic (bought royal purple oil and K&N filter). Just taking a poll: How long do YOU go between changes with synthetic?

I follow the owner's manual guidelines while under warranty. After that, I go with the oil minder x 2. In other words, I reset it once and change the next time. That gets me about 7000 miles. And I'm using synthetic.
