2016 JKU Hardtop rattle

Help me before I pull my hair out!
I have a 2016 JKU that has a rattle in the hardtop anytime I hit a bump. It is on the drivers side and sounds like it is by the top of the B pillar.
It happens with the freedom panels on or off.
I have taken the hardtop on and off 3 times.
I have tightened and loosened the bolts numerous times.
I have had my neighbor ride in the back, hold the seatbelt cover and it is still there. He held the hard top up and there is still a rattle.

It only has 10,000 miles on it and under warranty, but I would rather not take it to the dealer and get the run around.

Any suggestions??

i have the SAME rattle / knock noise. i can't figure it out. first i thought it was the seat belt adjuster which can tend to rattle. so i held it with my hand while going over bumps and it wasn't that...was still rattling / knocking. who the hell knows

It might actually be the soundbar. There's a thread about it - the part number sticker on the top of the soundbar rubs against the steel bar above it. Remove the soundbar, remove the sticker, reinstall.

Two other things it might be:

1. Your drivers side front or rear door. There is some play where the door catches the latch. This will cause vibration and rattle that resonates up the B Pillar right into your left ear. Temp solution is to wrap some electric tape around the door catch on the jamb, thickening it a bit. Test drive to see if the rattle either goes away or decreases in volume.

2. The bolt that holds the drivers side front portion of the hardtop. Mine would loosen up a bit and rattle when I went over bumps. Use some Teflon tape on that bolt and it should stay nice and tight.

Hope this helps

IF it sounds like its coming from the seat belt - It's the Door latch and striker loop that is rattling.
IF it is above your head. Check your torx bolt that is exposed when the FT is removed (the torx that holds the HT) if that is just a little loose it rattles.

I had a rattle in my passenger side A pillar that started after I installed Grabars. It turns out the passenger side was not quite tightened all the way. I took it off, applied wd40 and reinstalled everything and it went away.

Well, I wrapped the striker with electrical tape and no change.
Took the top off again and retorqued everything and no change.
Have not checked the soundbar decal. That seems kinda of strange.

The rattle started after I installed grab handles and an Aries third brake light extender, so I will start with both of those and torque everything down again.

Funny thing is that is does not make any noise when on the highway or offroad. Just driving in town.

I'll take the entire Jeep apart in the parking lot until I find it. LOL

Thanks for the suggestions.

That was it! I took the gab handles off and it went away imminently. I took the bolts out, covered them in marine grease and now it is silent again.

Thanks!!

I know you said the grab handles solved it. But for future when you get a weird rattle in the hardtop. Let it sit for a few days after you do something to try to fix it. Wait a few days before you try something else. Letting it sit and move by itself fixes a lot of rattles. A tricks I learned from the war.
