2018 Freedom Edition AEV Bumper Winch Install Q's

Hi All,

I am looking to install a winch on my 2018 Freedom Edition with the AEV front bumper. I got the Smitty X20 10k with Synthetic already, but noticed I need a winch plate to install.

Question: I saw AEV sells the winch plate separately from the fairlead mount and also them as a package. Do I need both? Did AEV/Jeep change anything over the years between this one and the MW3/Moab editions that would make me only need the one? It's $150 for just the winch plate and $285 for both, so no need to spend the money if I don't need it. Maybe I make a call to AEV?

Has anyone on here installed a winch on their 2018 Freedom yet?

It's been awhile since I installed mine, but I purchased the AEV kit which included both. I found a great deal on Ebay which was about the price of just the winch plate.

Anyways, I think you may need both because the front fairlead bracket seems to support the front of the winch plate. Watch AEV's install video, starting around 3:00 they install the winch plate assembly and you can kind of get an idea where you can see the winch plate has mounting bolts towards the back of the plate and the fairlead bracket is supporting the front of the winch plate. It seems you would not have a secure enough mount of the winch plate without the fair lead bracket, but I could be wrong since I didn't try mounting it that way.

Also, if you're looking to save some $ on the kit, go on Ebay and do a search on "Bulldog 20209". It's suppose to be the same kit but costs less.

DIYer mantra: "It doesn't cost that much more to just do it yourself."
