3.6 performance mods

Are there any performance mods that will actually work on the 3.6L engines? In the 'good old days' a chip, intake, and exhaust would get you a pretty good power boost on a Jeep, or just about any car for that matter (man, an old school late 80s-early 90s Mustang 5.0 would FLY with those simple mods!). Now, it seems that the newer computers compensate for everything, and if you put a chip, exhaust, or intake on, the computer re-tunes and you don't usually get very much performance after all.

Does anyone know of any real power enhancers (other than supercharging, turbos, or nitrous) that would get a few more ponies? I am not looking to change the world, just a little more power without spending too much. Of course all the manufacturers all claim big HP gains, but they are usually full of BS. Thanks. -Todd

Gone are the 'good old days' I guess! Dang. Time to save for that supercharger!! Heck, the computer will probably 'tune' it's way out of that after a while too! -Todd

Why do you want a tune? The motor puts out respectable performance numbers in stock form.

Damn... my 4.0L HO I-6 puts out 190 HP...

The new Pentastar motor is fine with decent gears.

The best performance mod you can do isnt even located under the hood.

Gears.

Superchips is now offering tunes for the 3.6, they are claiming 30hp & 30lb-ft, but it requires an ecu swap, and can be had for 500.00

It's been my experience on other vehicles that a CAI doesn't do much for performance, but it does look cool, and will sometimes sounds pretty damn good at WOT, the exhaust is all about sound as well... there are almost as many opinions about which exhaust to get as there are about the best oil to buy...

I've always said that if you're adding an exhaust and CAI for the right reasons, then they're worth the cost, if you're looking for better performance, then you might want to rethink.

just saying

The stock 3.6 is darn right quick for every situation I can come against every day. Drive a previous 3.8 or a 4.0 and then jump in your 3.6!

This is a fact! I drove the '15 we're giving away before and after the supercharger and I was never as underwhelmed with the power of my 4.0 as the next time I drove it.

OP, as mentioned, a Supercharger or engine swap will give you more power of course. I haven't seen dyno graphs of the new tunes available so I don't know if that 30/30 is in a usable section of the RPM band or not, but if so that would certainly be an option.

If you were having a lack of power due to larger tires I would make sure you regeared to get back to a factory-like final drive and also make sure that your PCM is re-calibrated for the new tire size, especially if it's an auto.

I'll be keeping an eye on the new tunes!

I like my CAI and Exhaust combo. Airaid and Gibson. I do reccommend and I have youtube videos of my gear if interested.

I feel that my 12' JKU is more responsive, but I don't know if any additional HP was gained. I can say that the Jeep sounds great.

I have SuperChips TrailDash; custom MagnaFlow Duel Exhaust and Drop in air filter. I am happy with the results. With my Traildash set on 87 tune. throttle response set on Moderate my 2014 JKUR Auto runs out pretty well. But I`m not sure how much hp I gained.
All I can say is I can tell the difference between stock setting and tuned.
I have Not Filled my tank and tried it on 93 tune yet...

I added exhaust. I do it to everything I own. Didn't pick up anything I can feel but it sounds better. On a modern engine, gains with exhaust and intake are generally small and any gain you feel is usually in your head, as the actual gain is too small to actually feel.

But my shit sounds mean now. Haha

That is maximum theoretical HP increase. Which BTW, is so small you can't even feel it in the seat of your pants. In reality, it will be less if anything. And frankly, absolutely pointless.

So on a majority of our systems we do see gains.
Remember this is a totally stock JK to a totally stock JK with our cat-back system on it.
We see these gains through out the power band.

Adding my CAI and Exhaust may or may not have added HP. Based on the DynoMax numbers, I am guessing I may have added 10 to 15 HP. Maybe I am pushing 300 hp...I don't know for sure.

My JKU sounds great and that has value to me. I could not stand the stock exhaust sound.

Another thing I forgot to mention, is that with a K&N CAI gets you to 7-12 HP but that is up around 5600 RPM.

I am running the K&N air filter (drop in), Dynomax 39522, and the Superchips TrailDash and I really enjoy it. Am currently running the 91 tune and can feel a difference. I understand it may adjust throttle response but so what. It moves! And the Dynomax muffler sounds even better. Love the little "BLURP" during gear changes. Still need to add a "worthless" throttle body spacer, intake tube, snorkle, and while we're at it, a Tornado Air Management System just to see what DOESN'T happen.
On another note. I piggybacked the AEV ProCal with the TrailDash to turn off TPMS and it did work. I should have used the ProCal to return the tire size to stock before plugging in the TrailDash and using the TrailDash to adjust tire size and may still do that. But everything works and I just had to disconnect the batter in order to remove the TPMS message from the EVIC every time you start the Jeep.

Just curious, but do any of the "it won't help" people actually have done charts to back up their claims?

*it being any claimed HP adder...
Note, I don't necessarily disagree, but it seems there is a lack of hard data...

Maybe the stock intake, exhaust and ECU programming extract the maximum possible performance from the 3.6 and cannot possibly be improved upon. Or maybe the dyno charts are fake and they're just trying to sell parts. I'm not sure who is more correct.

Most of the horsepower gains that people are quoting are for the 2012 and older. I haven't seen much for the '13 and newer.

The 2007-2011 JK still had the 3.8, so any results from those years are irrelevant to this topic. The 3.6 is 2012 through the present.

Things like the tornado and throttle body spacers have been basic common knowledge junk for at least 15 to 20 years. Nobody here is going to waste their time digging up dyno charts to "prove" it to you. I'm not going to go dig up and post proof that fire is hot either. It's common knowledge and you can look it up yourself if you so wish.

All the claimed numbers in this thread are from 3.6 JKs though.
