$449 above the manufacturer's MSRP

How can a jeep be $449 above the manufacturer's MSRP ?

I was using truecar, Edmonds and others to price my Jeep. Reading posts here I found I should be able to get the final price 3-5% below MSRP (and I did). However all of these sites state that they are selling for an average of $449 ABOVE MSRP. How can that be ? Are people paying more than the window sticker ?

Not in Texas - under invoice is the norm.

Its called Free Enterprise. What people pay, is dependent on their local market conditions.

Are people as surprised to find that a house costs more in Southern California than in Minnesota?

Most dealerships are not, a non-profit organization (finding caring families for homeless Jeeps? ).

You should be paying some percentage (3-7%) below dealer invoice, not below MSRP.

Vehicles sell for what people will pay for them--some sell for less some sell for more--but people will pay related to how "bad" they want it-- and someone is always willing to pay more sooner or later

In NEPA, it's like bizzaro world. They want sticker and low ball on trades. They put used jeep son the lot for what you can buy a brand new one at lustines or moons for new. Sad thing for us local jeepers, is dumb €%*#'s pay it. Because they move them.

I drove a bit and got a 75th anv for the same price as a sport s and at the time local dealers were offering me between 12,500 and 16,500 for my trade (2014 Cherokee trail hawk). Where I purchased gave me 18,200.

And people think I'm crazy for never purchasing cars locally.

I got 4% below invoice went to many dealers here and 4% was all they would go. What I'm asking about is how TrueCar had the average above MSRP. Who would pay above MSRP and why?

Not true.

In the bigger cities I am sure that is correct, but in West Texas, they can demand $500 over. Amarillo, Odessa, Midland, Lubbock. Why? Two reasons: 1. it is a 6 hour drive to the next major city to get below MSRP and there are no real incentives... ie no military bases in those cities.

Now I did get 3% below when I bought my 2nd one, only because we went back to the same dealer, in a very off month for sales.

This is true. This is why I ordered mine from Dallas....free delivery.

I shopped all over the country, and two dealers in DFW were the best prices I found for the Jeep I wanted.

Realizing I likely got hosed by my local dealer on my special order after reading posts like this. Live and learn. Won't make the same mistake twice.

After realizing how bad the local Toyota dealer was, I had my last one shipped from TN to LA.

To my knowledge those sites use average selling prices and many dealers Modiify new jeeps and then are able to sell them at huge prices. When I bought mine a couple years ago, the dealer had a modified Sport S on the lot at $60,000.

I did too, but paid $250 for delivery... overnight... on a Sunday.

I told my dealer, 3% is reasonable. I did the footwork and found the vehicle (in Fort Worth), contacted them and all you are doing is bringing it into inventory and doing the paper work. Or, I can drive to Fort Worth, stay at the Hilton, eat at Tim Love's The Lonesome Dove and make a weekend out of picking up the Jeep from the other dealer.

I got <3%.

Same where I bought mine in TN. They always had a couple of Sports or Saharas heavily modified with stickers north of $60K. One sat on the lot for nearly 2 years. It was a Hydro Blue Sahara Unlimited with all the bells and whistles...was marked down from $70K to $59K. What a deal.

Since I am in the process and researching what type of JK I may want, would you give me a heads up on what dealers are adding to make the price jump $10-$15 grand? Thanks!

It is garavel in norwalk CT. One is black for 70 and one is Gobi for 53. Both are on the website.
