adding 115v outlet to sport s JKU

Has anyone done a writeup on this or have any idea about installing one?

I wanted to do the same thing. However, I found a thread on here and it looks like there's more to it than just buying the outlet.

Consensus was to buy after market and call it a day. I would've loved to do the factory integration, but really done "need" a standard outlet when I think about it.

The factory solution on my 2012 has the outlet in center console and an on/off switch next to hazard lights button. From there everything like the inverter is hidden, but I didn't research parts list for it.

If anyone has researched the factory parts for the addition of the factory 115 outlet I'd be interested in that info too!

Thanks...

Why factory parts? There are many power inverters that you can install on your jeep. Depends on what you want to use the outlet for. I had a larger one in my previous vehicle and have a small one in the jeep that plugs directly into a 12 volt socket. I run a laptop from that. I wouldn't run anything like a fridge or power tools from that one.

I want to say the AC outlet that comes in the Saharas are really low wattage. Not going to throw out numbers, but its really only for charging cell phones. Get yourself an inverter and throw it in the back. Run some wires from the battery and you can go crazy with the power

This. I believe it is 100w which is less than 1 amp of current draw. Someone should correct me if I'm wrong. An inverter is a much better idea. I have a 4,000 watt inverter for my jeep which works out to be 33 amps peak power. I have to connect it to my battery to get that much but I think I can use 300-400 watts safely off of the cigarette lighter plug

Dang, only 100w? I think the AC adapter for my laptop pulls 90w! You can get a 500w inverter for like $50 and throw it in your center console. More power, same place.

I had to go look it up in the OM. 150 watts. So enough to charge a laptop, but not much more.

POWER INVERTER — IF EQUIPPED

There is a 115 Volt, 150Watt inverter outlet located on the
front of the center console to convert DC current to AC
current. This outlet can power cellular phones, electronics
and other low power devices requiring power up to
150 Watts. Certain high-end video games, such as Playstation3
and XBox360 will exceed this power limit, as will
most power tools.

The power inverter is designed with built-in overload
protection. If the power rating of 150 Watts is exceeded,
the power inverter will automatically shut down. Once
the electrical device has been removed from the outlet the
inverter should automatically reset. If the power rating

exceeds approximately 170 Watts, the power inverter
may have to be reset manually. To reset the inverter
manually press the power inverter button OFF and ON.
To avoid overloading the circuit, check the power ratings
on electrical devices prior to using the inverter.
The power inverter switch is located
on the instrument panel below the
climate controls. To turn on the power
outlet, press the switch once. The indicator
light will illuminate. Press the
switch a second time to turn the power
inverter outlet off.

NOTE:
When the power inverter switch is pressed,
there will be a delay of approximately one second before
the inverter indicator light turns ON.
