Advice Buying Manual Rubicon Unlimited

I am in the market for a manual rubicon unlimited. I was at a dealer today, and they wouldn't sell me one for less than MSRP + registration and taxes etc (they tried selling it for more than that).

I am in New Mexico, should I expect that the market for wranglers here is so great that I can't get the vehicle for less than MSRP or is the dealer trying to just make an extra buck?

Thank you for your helpful responses.

Just a greedy dealer. Find a new dealer and/or sign up with tread lightly and use the discount to get 1% under invoice. Also, check and see if your employer has the Chrysler affiliates reward program for the same discount.

Thanks, I didn't know about the tread lightly program, that sounds pretty awesome.

I'm waiting on mine to get delivered here in Phoenix, about 3k under MSRP. I know there's a few more 6 speeds that are also on the way and should be here in the next week or two. Shoot me a PM if you want the name of the place, not THAT long a drive if you're committed.

Most dealers accept the program, but be wary. Some will not.

Do this:
1) build and price online your exact model
2) allow dealerships to call you
3) confirm they have the exact model you want and get a quote
4) complete phase 1 of negotiating online
5) facetime is only deserved if a dealer gives a fair quote

Get a Costco member ship. I believe it's factory invoice minus $500. But you should be able to do better just negotiating, at least in the Denver area.

Well all dealers are greedy but it sounds like OP is trying to buy brand new, so I'd say youd be hard pressed to find any dealer selling a new Rubi that would be willing to budge on the Sticker price.

Pure and simple these things are so popular everywhere that they don't have to. If you don't like the price they think too bad the next guy will pay it without any hassle.

OP shoo around.. we have had a few dealers as vendors on the site.. history wise most sold for 1-3% below invoice.. so again shop and compare... also be willing to travel a bit for a deal.

What Zerethusta said above. Look at dealers in the metro Phoenix area. Lot's of discounts, even on the few manual transmission units.

I had good results with one particular salesman and manager at LHM in Abq. Not so much with different people there or elsewhere in Abq.
