Question Argh! I'm not in love! (with any of the 2012 colors)

Hey everyone,

I ordered a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sport at the weekend. We've been debating color choice for ages, and couldn't come up with a decision - so ordered anyway even though we weren't 100% on color.

We went for silver with black roof/wheel arches in the end, but are no means set. We have a short window of time when our dealer can change the order in the system, and we're still hesitating.

Our thought process went:

Black - love black in general. Every car I've ever owned is black, so (a) would like a change but also (b) don't like not having the contrast then between body color and black plastic

Red - wife loved the bright red, and I do think it looks good but I just can't get myself to want it for some reason. Think it maybe looks cheaper red?

Dozer - I like this, wife thinks it looks too close to a taxi cab

Crush - I was really looking forward to this, but the mockup on the 2012 website is nowhere near what i was expecting. it's very red, and to my eyes a bit odd.

Which left us with silver...which is...good, i guess. But we're just not excited about it.

Influence our weak and susceptible minds! Stick...or twist?

You can't go wrong with black in my opinion. I'm not a fan of any of the new cars for 2012 so far. I think they will end up releasing a couple more choices later in the model year.

hrmm this is a hard one. I would say follow your gut, as usual.

It seems that you ordered silver but are feeling a little "meh" about it, which makes me think you might always feel like you settled if you stayed with silver.

I would take a chance on one of the brighter colors. I'm obviously partial to Dozer, but I think the Red could work well, or perhaps the deep cherry red, as a nice compromise.

I'd rather have something that's different and stands out (what would Fruid say about that), even if I thought it looked a little funny, as eventually you might grow to like it, or at least find it endearing. Not to knock silver, as to my eyes I though Silver and White were some of the best looking colors for the "lines" of the car, but if you go with another color, then you wont have yet "another" silver car. Not to put negative connotations on silver, but in the way you described your silver choice, It seems like you might ultimately feel like that.

My $0.02. Or maybe $0.01, not too sure how helpful that was

Deep cherry red looks good against the black fenders and bumpers. I'm enjoying the silver but still enjoy the depth of darker colors. The plus side of silver is it stays looking clean way longer then darker colors. In the winter months they salt the roads here and darker colors can be a pain if you want it to look decent.

I agree these colors suck. The 2 best colors tan and green were done away with probably due to the lack of pigment from Japan due to the tsunami. Tan was the best jeep color ever too

Can't go wrong with black. Don't worry about not having the contrast. It will show up in a few years when the black plastic begins to fade.

I'm thinking BF Green, but need to see it on a Jeep. If not then Silver or Deep Cherry Red. I was hoping for a dark blue, but no cigar!

I understand your pain. I have not ordered yet...as I'm not in love with any of the colors. Mango Tango and Sahara Tan were my top choices.....everything is just "OK" to me. If I can't get the color I want, I won't (over)pay for the painted top. If I don't get the painted top, I may look at a Sport S. The Sport S's only come with all black interior (which I don't want). If I can't get the interior nor exterior color I want, I won't drop +$30,000 on a vehicle.

I'd go with Red first, followed by Silver.
If I go with a Sport S package, the bright Red with black fenders, top, and interior look good IMO.

I was like you. I wanted green but not blackgreen. I looked at a lot of posts of jku pictures. Then I saw this: . Its a mango tango from another forum. How could you not like that? I ordered a crush jku four days ago. Im putting identicle rims and tires with a lift on my jeep. It is going to be awesome. A wheel/tire change can makes a world of difference in looks. Consider some mods on a color you may have not considered before.

My wife and I had the same feeling. What we really wanted was a dark blue, but that isn't available. Ended up going with silver and stuck with it. A few of the bright new colors were considered, but we plan to trade this one in on a new one in 5 years and didn't want something that might kill us on resale if bright colors aren't in style at that time. Otherwise we may have done one of the oranges and put a giant black Pistol Pete sticker on the hood.

I think you're right about that. When my green on tan TJ ever does need a paint job, it's going tan. Tan Jeeps rock, and I think the green/tan combo seats won't look so ridiculous with a tan body...

Out of those choices, Flame Red. Bright Red is a classic Jeep color, can't go wrong with it.

Not in love with any of those colors. Can't wait to see winter chill. A tan or blue may be worth a wait.

I feel your pain. I went through the same issue. I waited for nearly 3 months for an answer with respect to detonator yellow, when they announced that yellow would no longer be avalible we travelled the car lots looking at the availible colours. As I am a big fan of constrasting colours (black roof and fenders on a lighter colour body) I looked at silver, black forest green and the cherry red. I found the green too dark and I fell in love with the cherry until I looked at it on a cloudy day and saw a hint of brown...hmmmm I hate brown. After all that I "settled" for flat, plain white. They could have at least made it pearl. Now I am putting in some overtime, saving my pennies and in a couple of months I will be able to have my jeep in any colour I choose. Sounds kinda odd, painting a new vehicle but when your not totally sold on the colours avalible. I looked at it this way, we change bumpers, rock sliders, add lifts, change wheels all to suit our personallity....why not paint?
Good luck!

Flame red looks very classy and is a timeless Jeep color. Something like Mango Tango or Dozer is more of a fad color in my eyes. But to each his own.

I was in the same boat when I ordered. I REALLY wanted the dark green, but I took too long and missed my chance. I test drove a 12 Flame Red and fell in love with the Jeep itself, but not really the color, or I would have bought that exact one. I cruised lots for ever trying to see every available color in person and the only one that really caught my eye was the Deep Cherry Red. I ordered it in that and can't wait for it to show up. The more Deep Cherry I see the happier I am I ordered it. The dark red really pops with the fenders and top, and will only look better with black wheels.

So in short, get the Deep Cherry!!!

I was the same way. I really love Mango Tango and Rescue Green. Neither of those are available and am not loving Crush from the pictures that I have seen. Gecko looks promising but I can't wait until January to even order! So I went with Deep Cherry Red. It will look great with the tan seats. And my hair. lol

1) Do you like the discontinued Sahara Tan colour?
2) Have you tried to find one in that colour on a lot? (It was available for the first 2 order banks...)

The Arctic Blue sounds like it will be very nice.... light blue/silver colour...

I think the Jeeps look great in the lighter colors, but like a lot of you, I could not warm up to the current choice of light colors.
I was hoping that Jeep would bring back the Surf blue (something like that) color they had a couple years ago. Loved that color, it was not as light as the current cosmos blue.
I was ready to order Dozer, untill I saw one at the dealership. To orange for my taste
I almost went with cosmos blue - but it is so, bluueeee.

In the end I ordered with Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl. That is a sweet color.
