Awaiting new jk with guarded optimism

I made a deal on a new 2017 2dr Rubicon factory order in Granite Crystal. Order accepted by FCA on May 9 and I am awaiting to hear from dealer with VIN. My selling dealer has assured me that it is coming with black hardtop. First dealer I talked to said I needed to buy the painted top option or, if I wanted black hardtop, I would have to purchase dual group option. Said I could not buy the black hardtop as a stand alone option even though I built this jeep on the jeep website. Made deal with second dealer. Dealer wanted $2500 F/O deposit but i offered and they accepted $1,000. Paid 2% over invoice which I think in Canada is a good deal.
Have been reviewing this forum and others and can't get a warm and fuzzy feeling about the new arrival. Paint quality and build quality on the 2017 runout concerns me. I opted for a 17 as I did not want to be a beta for the JL. My thinking is the last of the 17s should be the best as all the gremlins and problems in the JK run should be resolved.Tentative arrival is July.
In view of the ongoing paint issues, I am going to go over this vehicle with a fine tooth comb and if I see any paint issues , I will refuse delivery. I will also refuse to pay any more toward the deposit while awaiting arrival, if, for some good old boy reason, I am asked. Pretty sad to hold such negative feelings when making such a purchase!

You're going about this the same way we did.. special order the unlimited Sport without options other than auto trans 3.73 etc.. I've been on the forum for about 2 or 3 weeks just getting an idea of what to expect. Although I've heard somewhere before this same issue where another member wanted a black paint hard top.. but dealerships simply didn't hear what he was saying and gave him a Black hard top.
In my opinion, you need to stay on this like white on rice.. get on jeep chat and voice this concern to Jeep themselves.. let them know this is how you ordered it. In our case, jeep chat people were on this way before our dealership.. In other words cut out the middle man..

Dealer one is full of crap regarding the top. The standard is a soft top, but you can buy a black hard top, a body colored hard top, or the dual top group as options.

I placed an order for a Recon on May 5th. The dealer I placed it with is 2.5 hours away, so the order was placed on the phone. No mention of a deposit was ever made. The Recon comes stock with a soft top, but I switched that out for a black hard top for $549 US dollars. As far as paint flaws go, I'm pretty easy going in that department. As long as there's no exposed metal, I'm good to go. It's a Jeep. Hope yours comes out good, though.
Be yourself. Everybody else is already taken.
