The answer to that question is undoubtedly one of the street legal HID sets that will set you back a few grand. But I doubt this is the answer you were looking for. Likely to have poorly defined answers to a poorly defined question. Where do you drive? How much do you drive? How cold does it get? How much do you value distance vision vs side spill. Do you use the headlights as lighting at night around camp? Without that type of info it is impossible to give an intelligent answer.

My own personal choice was $50 Cibies from Amazon with and adapter cable, under $150 all in and a notable upgrade over the POS OEM headlights.

You asked a question that will get as many opinions as most oil change discussions! The top three seem to be (#1) J.W. Speakers, (#2) Quadratec LED's, and (#3) Trucklites. The J.W's are very nice, but also expensive. The other two are priced similarly and offer a vast improvement over stock. Some will complain about the light pattern projected by the Trucklites, but those are what I am running and I love them. My night vision has deteriorated a little over the years, but the Trucklites seem to turn darkness into daylight! I found the best deal for a set of two with anti flicker harnesses as a package on ebay. Be careful with just replacing the bulb alone, as I have seen more than a few posts claiming doing so (changing to led's) is not DOT compliant.

I like the beam pattern of the KC's myself. Make sure you take a look at demos before buying, though. Any good set will run you $400-600, including anti-flicker adapters which are recommended.

If you go with the JW Speaker 8700 J-Series headlights you won't need an anti-flicker harness. The J-Series have it built-in unlike the previous JW headlights

I agree with the post above on J.W. Speaker, Quadratec and Trucklites. I have the J.W. Speaker 8700 Evolution J (Wrangler specific - no extra anti-flicker wiring harness needed) headlights and couldn't be happier.

I would recommend that whatever route you go, be prepared to also replace your fog lights with the same brand. I installed the JWS headlights and the factory fogs immediately looked very dim and yellow. To save money, I went with the Quadratec fogs. And while they're good quality and probably fine, the light they put out is a bit more blue than the JWS headlights and don't seem bright enough by comparison. The difference in the 2 bugs me so I'll likely replace the Quadratec fogs with the JWS that match my headlights.

I have the quadratic's and I'm happy. PM them on here for a better price than the catalog.

This^. Speakers 8700-J will be a dramatic transformation. I see u are new here and if you look around there are thousands of words written about your concern. What I am saying is, take our opinion and you will be told many things. There is a way to research objectively. You will find the big few, Speaker, KC, Trucklite, Quadratech. You have to decide.
My reasoning is Speaker for reasons above plus made in USA, great support, great visual appearance on the Jeep, most important is beam pattern which I can say for me is second to none. Good Luck.

Agree, I also have the JW 6145 J-Series fog lights with the Maximus 3 brackets (for my hard rock bumper) and the Headlight Revolution harness (so you don't need to splice wires, plug and play) and it looks awesome. The fogs fill in the light out to the first 15-20 feet ahead of the Jeep then the headlight take care of the rest. Amazing setup. Get a quote from Rick at Quadratec for a low price

I have the Quadratecs and once they are leveled they are very good. So much better than stock. That being said, it's all about the price point. JW Speakers are awesome but you have to decide if they are worth twice the price.

The KC's are DEFINITELY better then trucklites as far as light pattern. Same price and 23 year warranty and made in the good ol USA too. I have them and are very impressed.

My criteria:
-had to be DOT
-output performance
-appearance (I like the more traditional appearance)
-price
-service (I buy from distributors that can support their product)

Only you can decide what you want and what you want to spend. For my criteria I went with Quadratec and am very happy. There are other good products, that's for sure- I think it's more about what fits the buyer, rather than declaring any one, the winner. As mentioned earlier, it is a sensitive subject.

I am running Bosch H4's with Hella 90-130 bulbs on a cheap eBay Chinese relay and an H13-H4 adapter. Might have $100 tied up in it. Been running H4's on my TJ and took them off when I sold it and installed them on my JK when I got it in April. Never have had an issue with law enforcement on any of my cars that I have installed them on. 6 in total in the last 30+ years.

One other consideration is winter conditions where you drive. Leds don't get warm enough to melt the snow/ice and may freeze over in harsh conditions. Few people here seem to have that problem with LEDs but Jeeps seem to be predominantly warm weather dwellers (tons of them here on Southern CA, hardly saw any when I was in Oregon). I also have the Cibies, around $130 all in if you buy the reflectors and bulbs on Amazon. These were used on high end mass luxury vehicles before the advent of HIDs.

All of the hype regarding the JW lights is making me highly consider purchasing them. Would be great to find them on sale for Black Friday this year.

There is no question about what is best... It's the Hella projectors.

Hella 90mm Bi-Xenon Headlamp Kit | Rally Lights

You're in for about $1500 for that set up.

But from there, the JW Speakers are great. Maybe $700

Then there is a level below that where the Quadratec's, KC/Petersons hang out. Around $400-$450.

You can also do an H4 conversion and stay with halogen and an upgraded reflector, like the Cibie's and Hella's... About $120.

I am going through this now. I purchased the Truck lites and have had them on for a few days. Got the horizontal adjustment screws in Saturday and even when adjusted they just don't meet my expectations. I didn't think the XX pattern before adjustment and YY now that they are adjusted would bother me but it is a distraction to me. It draws my attention to what that is pointed on. They are going back and I am probably going with my first guy instinct which was JW Speaker, although I really didn't want to spend that much.

Then Quadratecs or KC's are your alternative

From what I have learned on here:

JWS > Trucklite > QTec > Cibie > Maglite > Christmas Lights > a single candle > OEM

In my experience, yes. I couldn't handle the Trucklite artifacts... And the Q-tec's and KC's are really close.

So, more like this:

Hella Bi Xenon Projectors > JWS > KC & QTec > Trucklite > Cibie & Hella H4 > Maglite > Christmas Lights > a single candle > OEM > non DOT conversions

Are we:

Only legit DOT HID... and that is nearly $1500.

Morimoto Sealed7... Customize the shrouds, drl's, and quality of bulb. Completely blows away any other 7" inch headlight on the market. Much better than Hella or JW Speaker, and less money.

They're not in the same league. They're not legal.
That's why they cost less. None of that ethical nonsense that legitimate companies have to comply with...
