The long-range America tank is roughly $16 to $1,700 depending on shipping. Adds 16 to 17 gallons and sits same height as the factory tank. Have one on my wife's Jeep she loves it very well-thought-out and the customer service was great.
I installed it myself. took me most of a weekend but it wasn't super hard and I have just hand tools. it was mostly just because I was taking my time. instructions are not the best because they use millimeters to describe things but the company was working on that and it was still fairly easy to figure out.
just for fun lets say you currently get 300 miles per tank, over the next 100,000 miles you will fuel up 333 times. Add this tank and you will now fuel up 150 times. At $1,700.00 for the tank you are paying over $11.00 each time you skip the gas station.
Definitely not cheap but I like to add a time component to it. Using the above numbers, if each fill up is 10 minutes and you save 150 trips that is ~1500 minutes or 25 hours or a whole day of your time back.
Now in my case you could argue I squandered my day installing it but I like working on the Jeep, I don't like filling up my gas tank....
The long range America tank is the same as the the Australian 'long range automotive' tank. There is also a 'Long Ranger' Australian tank that holds a little more but I could not find a US importer. Both of those tanks come with everything you need including the pump.
Should we factor in the extra weight as a result of lugging around an extra 20 gallons at 6 lb per gallon of gas? There are some jeepers that choose to drive without the spare tire to save approx 100 lb of dead weight. I'd say carry a few jerry cans.
Jeep really missed a money-making opportunity by not offering a larger tank option. (Of course, the way manufacturers price options, it probably would have been $4K.)
