Buying a 2010 4dr Islander model this week - have younger kids.

Hi!
I'm new here!

Back before kids I had a cherokee - I LOVED that dang thing but it was a renix and started idling at 1500 and would drive itself. This got very annyoing and i replaced or cleaned everything I could, but I couldn't get the idle down.

We sold it and bought a PT cruiser from my parents, then traded that for a Kia once we had our first.
Traded that for a 2010 Ford Flex when we had the 2nd and now I want a jeep again.
Boys are almost 3 & almost 6.

I've decided on this silver Islander model as I love teal and the seats are a really nice, almost teal, blue in the middle.

It has the 3.8L engine which I've read mixed reviews on, but I'm not super worried - I'm used to driving an AWD Ford lol.

I'm hoping I can put the car seat and booster seat on the middle and right seat and leave the left seat free so I can fold down if I need to...

Does anyone do this?

The jeep is a 35 minute drive and my almost 3yr old is not fun to travel with so I don't want to drive out there to just test the car seats.

I thought about going to a dealership and trying, but on a newer model, will it be the same seat size?

Pics attached of Jeep.

I get it friday when I get my flex back from the body shop. It was hit in a parking lot and I never bothered to get it fixed til now!

Also - What accessories can I buy to make my life easier with this jeep? My 30th Birthday is coming up this month - the jeep is a present to myself.. but my parents want to know what to get me - Things for jeep would be cool!

Anything I should be aware of going from a fully loaded vehicle to one with many less frills?

Are you sure that's an Islander edition? I have a 2010 2 door Islander that's blue. It didn't have the Sahara bumper in the front and the "Islander" and "Tiki-guy" decal was on the hood. It also did not have the little Tiki-guy on the front fender like that one. I do have the same seats. That one also looks like it has Sahara Wheels on it as well. If you can, get the VIN number before you go to see if it really is either an Islander with Sahara stuff on it or a Sahara with Islander stuff on it. Should be a link here.

The basic vin decoders tell me its an unlimited.. But nothing else useful!

i paid for a compnine one - $5 for 5 vins - and it tells me "ACA ISLANDER PACKAGE"

It's also apparently slate grey? Doesnt look very slate to me!

Should I be concerned about rust on the bolts inside?

From what I've read so far.. it is really common?

Heres the link to the ad

Pretty sure all JKs get the rust on the seat bolts, at least my two in Upstate NY. Looks to be in good shape.

This may not work but I get all my Jeep window stickers here: Use your VIN number to get Chrysler Window Sticker

The link he (and I) provided will give you a list of what was all on the window sticker when this was new, including any packages like Islander. If this, in fact, an Islander, someone has done stuff to it for some reason. The stickers are not in the right place, it has the wrong bumpers on it and the wrong wheels. It may not be a big deal as we all modify our Jeeps at some time or it could have been wrecked bad and the pieced it together at some point.

Don't try to put a car seat in the middle. Only use the outside seats, it's not a big enough space and I don't think it's rated for using a car seat in the middle and another directly next to it. I switch out my two car seats every weekend from my wife's GX460 to the "JEEP!!!". Sorry to burst your bubble about folding the seat down. Also depending on the size/shape of your car seat you may want to do the headrest mod. My son's car seat is so tall that it bumped the headrest which caused it to not sit fully back onto the seat. Basically when you flip your seats forward the headrests flip up, there's a spring in there that automatically flips them back. You dig in there and unhitch the spring and it stays flipped back so nothing hits it on the seat side. you can still manually flip it up whenever you want.

Happy Jeeping! My two boys LOVE the Jeep.

I have a 2015 4dr and I have a car seat in the middle and a booster on the left.

It works fine. A little tight to get the seat belt buckled for the booster but no problems at all.

The latch system is in the middle as well so you should have no issues from that stand point at least on my 15.

The detailed vin report I got said it came with a silver front bumper.

I tried the window sticker link, and it told me there was nothing that matches my VIN

That very well could be.

MY BAD! Sorry! I read that as if you were using two car seats, not a one and a booster. It's fine if you use LATCH for one and seat belt for the other one.
