Coming up on 400 miles! Oily topic.

Funny, but every forum I've joined over the years (Chevy Trucks, SSR, Pontiac Soltice, and Corvette) there's always a million posts on oil changes and every single time I get caught up in it. I remember Consumer's Report doing a big write up on it and it told a story about "not to" change it as much as our father's once did. I've come to the conclusion (you can take my conclusions and 50 cents and still not be able to buy a cup of coffin) that do whatever the manual states and you most likely won't have any problems. BUT.....just to feel comfortable in my own skin (and that is what really counts) I'm going to have my first change at 500 miles. I may go a couple of thousand more miles and then change over to that Mobil stuff. It may not mean a darn thing to the actual life expectancy of my newly purchased Jeep, but I spent so much money on this vehicle that I feel better at going the extra step in protecting my investment. Geez, if I can spend "stupid money" on some of the things I'm adding to my Jeep Unlimited, then I can spend a little extra feeling better about my oil decision.

Usually a hot topic for sure. I'm from the dump the Factory Fill early camp. Here's some additional discussion on the topic.

I like to change mine daily, even if I don't drive it.

Heck, let just burn it up like a 2stroke and forget oil changes all together. My 2 stroke new Evinrude has cleaner emissions and is tons more efficient than my 4 stroke Yamaha. I think we need 2 stroke Jeeps.

Same thing here, my ski doo snowmobile is almost as fuel efficient as my jeep will be, and burns far less oil than my Hyundai lol.

LOL Years ago I had a neighbor with a Chevy Van that had a 250 I6 that burnt a qt of oil every 200 miles. No point in changing the oil in that pig. Once a year he changed the filter. I'd give him the waste oil I drained from my van every 3000 miles, he used that until he junked his van.

Den Jeep.
Well said. If it makes you feel better, change that oil.
I have 5 free oil changes at dealership so, I am going to use them all.

I got 3 years, or 36,000 miles of free oil changes, or

I could choose synthetic and filter (bring in)and they would still do the change free--

Can you imagine that ??

Haven't done it-

OK, so they say no need to change a new motors oil after 500 miles, when its most likely to have bits n pieces in it from the motor bedding in, but once worn in it still has to be changed every 6 months??

That never made sense to me either. I think its for ease of ownership more than anything else, not necessarily what's best. But then you'll always hear the argument of how long engines have lasted not dumping the FF early. In the end its do what you want, your money, your engine. As you can see from these discussions many people have their own beliefs and these discussions rarely change them.
