Dana 44 ELocker vs Auburn Gear ECTED MAX

I have been looking at a selectable locker for the back of my 2010 JKU. Just wondering if there is a noticeable difference between the Dana and the Auburn Gear. The Auburn Gear is usually between $100.00 to 150.00 cheaper than the Dana. Is the quality not as good ?

Can't speak to the Dana, but I have an Eaton E-Locker in the back (stock axle, G2 Placer Gold halfshafts) and an Auburn Ected in the front (G2 D44 complete axle). I have the Auburn because when I replaced my D30 (that had another Eaton E-locker in it) with the G2, that was the only choice they had with 4.56 gearing. (I think they'll do it with several different options, but I couldn't wait and that was what was stock.)

Anyway, to be honest, after 2 years with a fair amount of wheeling, including 5 weeks in Moab, I haven't noticed anything different about having the Auburn vs. the Eaton I had in front before. They both lock, every time I push the button. Once locked, they're both a pain in the ass to steer and I unlock them as quickly as conditions warrant. They both release quickly and without qualms, such that I've never noticed either of them staying locked any longer than I wanted them to be.

2 years and 8000 miles isn't a long term test, of course (and only a tiny bit of that, probably less than 2 miles, was with the front Auburn locked.) But so far no problems.

I had an ECTED in my axle for a while.

It never actually locked the rear. It just turned into a really aggressive limited slip. And when I got a tire in the air it would spin.

After a few years, the limited slip clutches wore out and it wouldn't limit slip any more. Even when I turned on the "locker" switch.

I now have an Eaton E-Locker and the ECTED went to the scrap recyclers.

Don't waste your money or time on the ECTED. If you want a locker, get a real locker. If you want limited slip, don't waste time with a clutch style that will wear out in 20K miles. Get a TrueTrac.

And as far as I know, Dana corporation doesn't make a selectable locker. All I've ever seen from Dana corp are the open differentials and clutch type limited slips. The only selectable lockers I know of are aftermarket units. The ones that come to mind are the ARB air locker, the Eaton E-Locker, Ox locker, and Yukon Zip locker.

That makes more sense.

The Eaton is a great locker. The ECTED is garbage.
