Got the idea to start looking into dash cameras for my Jeep today. I want a 2 camera system with a forward and rear facing camera when recording. I also like the idea of Parking + Motion Detection Recording when people get close to my Jeep it will take a pic or 30 second video. I came across this system that seems to have the options I would like but not to sure if there are any other good camera systems are out there. https://dashcamtalk.com/lukas-lk-7950-wd/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J7op6Z_4RM
How do you guys mount these dash cams in your Jeep? about have this system or another 2 camera system? I have the Rugged Ridge dash organizer, will that mount be possible? Thx
i have a G1W-C, but haven't mounted it yet. I should be taking delivery of my Jeep either Tuesday or Wednesday. The thing that concerns me is the flatness of the windshield and I'm not sure how it will mount since it's suction cup based.
I have the BlackVue 650 (dual channel) in my Ram and I love it. I have been close to buying the same for the Jeep, but my fear is theft, specially with the freedom panels off during summer.
I like the features it has. It is hard to find a good/reliable dual channel camera like the blackvue.
The no monitor is a non issue for me. As you said, linking my iPhone 6+ with it via wi-fi is very simple. So far, mine has saved me of about $3800 in damages in three different instances, last one was a box truck that hit my side view mirror while parked. The owner and driver of the truck was very surprised when I called the number on the truck's door (as seen on the video recording) to resolve the problem. They cut me a check for the value of a new mirror in two days...
I've been running URive Shotgun in my vehicles. They have held up to the FL heat (in closed up vehicles, in the sun for hours) and have never failed in over two years.
So what what's the purpose of having a dash cam? Insurance purposes? Record accidents? Live in a bad area?
If your gonna spend 3-400 on a dash cam why not just buy a gopro?
Just trying to understand the practical uses for something like this. I've thought of getting one too but can't justify it... Something else to catch a thiefs eye and get jacked.

I want to go with a front and rear facing cam so you would need 2.
I was thinking about a gopro but don't think the have parking and motion detection/recording. With security film on the windows thieves would have a difficult time getting in through a window.
Just bought two ANART Ex Series to record my road trips, not decide the best location to be use as a dash cam yet, as the Jeep is panels open theft prevention is some to think about .
I am using a GoPro with a 32gb card. I commute in a heavily populated area and I see stuff all the time that I "wish I had a camera for..." One thing that I often face is dump trucks. If I get a cracked windshield for a dump truck that is losing its load, I have a case against the company. Since Jeeps are prone to cracks, I'm not taking chances. Additionally, being in a heavily populated area, there are higher volumes of bad drivers.
I use the Mobius Action Camera. It is easy to use and I purchased the camera with a large selection of accessories and a memory card for less than $130. I hard wired the camera in later which required a special harness as the camera runs of 5 volts. I added the harness, removed the battery and added the suggested capacitor in its place.
Here is a fun video I captured. I made a mistake uploading it in 240 but the camera is capable of 1080P.
One thing I will mention here that no one else has is the G1W-C is cheap enough that if I do something stupid I won't hesitate to throw the thing over in a ditch without being noticed. No need to prove your own guilt. :whacky: Mine has come in handy for a couple other folks already but thankfully I haven't had to use it in my own defense and hope I never need to. I have recorded some near misses though. I usually leave the sound turned off also. Just in case.
I decided to go with the Black Box G1W-CB. Actually two of them. My plan is to run one front and one rear and hard wire them in or at least to a fuse that turns on with the ignition.
Have you guys checked out the mini 0806 dash cam, i am considering this one because
1) it looks like you can easily remove just the camera from the mount with out moving the cords - perfect for days without doors or the top/soft top, you can simply remove from vehicle or hide in vehicle
2) it is small and easily hidden
3) fairly priced
4) has a magnetic polarized lens that reduced the glare
Only thing I'm not sure about capability is duel camera but I was thinking with the soft top I would have no where to mount it anyways or can't thing of any
Not to fancy, but I've been using my old iPhone in my Rugged Ridge multi-mount to record my commutes. It was just sitting in a drawer. Video quality is good should I ever need it.
I also have the RR dash mount, I could when I put my iPhone 6+ in it (horizontal) it took up half the windshield and blocked a lot of my view it seemed. I now have the factory dash insert in there. I think I'm still leaning towards that LuKas system I posted on the first post. I like that it has 2 cameras with parking and motion recording when the vehicle is off. Still open to other ideas if anything else out there looks good to me.
I just got my Black Box G1W-C's tonight. Quick test and i'm impressed! For now i'm running them in with the cigarette lighters, but the hard wiring setup will be nice.
Basically i'm wiring from my relay/fuse box to a switch, then the cameras through a 12v to 5v converter box with dual USB outputs. I'll run long usb cables behind dash and along the factory harness for the rear camera and hook them up behind dash. This way they won't turn on when the vehicle is started, but all I need to do is flip one switch on my switch panel and both turn on and start recording until I flip the switch off.
I'm doing it this way for a few reasons:
1. Relative ease of install once all the wiring is actually ran.
2. Ability to leave them on and running if I run into the store quickly.
So I purchased the Auto Vox B-40 C from Amazon. The only thing I can say is, you get what you pay for. Out of all the video footage I got today, not a single one was clear enough to read a license plate. This to me is a bog issue, because I already had a hit and run with my truck. I've got to say, although the BlackVue is $350, the video is 100% clear and usable. Every time you pause, the frame is clear enough to read the smallest lettering on trucks, cars and license plates, in case of a hit and run.
It also gave me a hard time with 3 different cards, randomly gave me a "card full" message and would not record.
In my opinion, this camera is not worth a dime.
I guess I'll have to buy another BlackVue for the Jeep...
I purchased the MINI 0806, pretty happy with my purchase so far, nothing to compare it to, but does exactly what I want it to do. I was able to plug the adapter into the dash cig lighter, and wrap the cable under the passenger side dash, and up around the passenger side modeling and over to the left side of the rearview mirror, it fits perfectly and its out of the way. I mounted the GPS mount right at the top of the windshield to the left of the rear-view mirror, and left myself just enough room to remove the camera from its mount without the mirror getting in the way.
I have the G1WH and I tried to install it today and bummed to find out it will not fit behind the auto dimming mirror of my new 2015 JKU Rubi Going to have to do some custom install of sorts this weekend I guess. I love the fact it was only 45 bucks and works great so far.
