Doors off.

Ok I want to take my doors off for the summer. But I was wondering if I could get a ticket for not having my side mirrors.

It is illegal in WA state to drive without rear view mirrors. You must have either driver's side and the interior mirror or driver's side and passenger side rear views. Or all three. You can get adapters to mount your mirrors with the door off.

Now with these adapters would I have to get new mirrors or can I used the stock mirrors?

I don't think driving doorless is against the law in any state, is it? That would seem silly since motorcycles are legal.

Anyway, to the OP, there are tons of solutions that people have come up with. Search for "mirror relocation" and you'll find some very creative solutions .

Here is what I did (after reading another member's post): purchased a Harley Long Stem mirror (doesn't have to be a Harley one, I just thought having a Harley mirror on my Jeep was kinda cool) and then I made a bracket from a door hinge I had laying around in the garage. The mirror comes off easily when I roll with the doors on and the bracket just stays there all the time. It doesn't get in the way of anything.

Edit: just realized OH9JK's post is exactly what I did...LOL.

Even though here in PA the law states that you only need 1 mirror, 175.68 PA code, I've had my doors off for 2 weeks, and I think that I may get a drivers side mirror. I didn't realize how much I actually used it until it wasn't there.

In OC, MD I've been told there's some stupid municipal law about not having door handles on the vehicle, so they can ticket you for that. Whether or not it's true is another story. One of the cops there (this one was a real power tripper) told me he'd pull me over every time he saw me with the doors off.

I would argue that "not having door handles" only applies if you have the door, and that it becomes moot for you since you don't have doors to begin with!

I went through their municipal code section on their website and didn't see anything, but then again, there wasn't much to it and they probably have laws not posted.

I like MD though because their mirror law says you need 2 mirrors if you're registered in state and only 1 if you're not. I live in WV but often spend time in MD, so I'm like "suck if pigs!" when I'm there...well, in the nicest way possible anyways.

Most states require that you at least have the driver's side and center mirror.

That being said, some areas are more strict on enforcement than others.

Where I live, there is a pretty large Jeep community, and many run without doors during the summer. I rarely see any running mirrors.

I haven't bothered to get one for my driver's side yet, either, and I've never been ticketed for it. *knocks on wood*

That's funny. Two threads about doors off posted today. Summer heat must be getting everyone to drop their doors, ha.

I posted this on the other one:

Check this out: ====LIST of STATE MIRROR LAWS==== - JeepForum.com

I know it's a different forum (Ooo, evil other forums that aren't Wrangler Forum, hissss) but someone compiled a legit list of all of the mirror laws for the U.S.

I don't know that it's a sure-fire way to get out of a ticket but for example if your Jeep is registered in PA (like mine) you only need one rear-facing mirror. If you tell the officer of NJ or MD for example that your Jeep is legal where it's registered, he/she may let you go.
