Hey! You look familiar! Sorry it took six months for me to see your post!

We still need to get me, you, and Terry together to go to one of the off road parks we'd talked about a few months ago.

Latest update from Kurt Masser's Executive Assistant:

Quote:
This bill was reintroduced on April 17th and in the 2019-2010 legislative session, it is bill number 1240. It was referred to the Transportation Committee. It is up to the Chairman of that Committee for it to be scheduled for a vote. That is the first step. Rep. Tim Hennessey is the Majority Transportation Chairman. I would suggest letters be sent to him.

House Bill 1240 suggests that it will be unlawful to drive ‘doorless’ with any persons/passenger under the age of 18 or on any roadway having a speed in excess of 55mph.
Hmmm... a step in the right direction but they laced it with enough loop holes to easily warrant a stop and ticket from the police

UGH, I didn't see that at first.... They should make it so that you only leave their doors on. I've seen many parents only take their front doors off and leave the rear doors on for their kids. Or a 2-door, where it shouldn't even be an issue.

That’s what I do. Kids 5 and 3 have full doors at all times. Me, rarely have doors on in the summer.

It's unreasonable to allow a motorcycle on the highway, with or without a helmet, but not allow a Jeep with no doors over 55MPH.

I agree (although I think you meant it is stupid to not allow a Jeep to run down the highway with doors off while a motorcyclist without a helmet is allowed, just making sure).
It is odd to me that this became such a problem. It seems crazy. I hope it works out for you guys.

Yes exactly, it's not reasonable to allow the motorcycle in any fashion if the "standard" would be to not allow the Jeep. Now, making that argument might get you in hot water with motorcycle owners if the crazy lawmakers decided to go the other way!

The Jeep with no doors would be many fold safer for the occupants and other vehicles. I can't say I am staunchly opposed to the no under 18 without doors. It's reasonable to me. At least trail tube doors for when kids are in the vehicle. Kids are dumb.

This just sums up government for me. I wouldn’t expect anything else. It’s ridiculous.

My kids are 9, 10 and 14, I ride full doorless with them whenever. So far been ok here in PA without the doors. I've been on highways 55 and those with 65mph speed limits. I hope it stays that way, the kids love it and know, seat belts on, arms and legs in (except for Dad). 18 is ridiculous! and while going 70 without doors are is not the best, sometimes you have to do it. When the rest of the country finds it ok, why do we even have any laws like this on our books.

Why is going 70 without doors not the best?

Last weekend on Live PD, a Williamson County (Texas) pulled over a car (Cadillac IIRC) without a front passenger door. The other three were still intact.

Now, I don't know if it was because the vehicle was designed to have all four doors in place, the fact that there was no passenger side rear view mirror, but the talked to the kids (I think they were 17 to 20) about the dangers of driving without a door in place. When they searched the vehicle (non verbally responsive passenger) they found several illegal substances.

The whole time during the episode, I kept wondering if they would have stopped a doorless Jeep, or even a Jeep with only one door off.

No doors required here in Texas. Even if it isn't a Jeep. A mirror (or mirrors) that enables the driver to see 200' behind the vehicle is. A windshield is not required, but if you have one then it must include windshield wipers.

I know this is a JK thread. My YJ has a sticker that states the top and doors are only for weather protection and will not provide impact protection.
