extremely disappointed - 2nd '14 JK rear seal

This is very disturbing. Susan and I were leaving with the '14 JK from south Florida on Monday (110215) for a +5000 mile round trip into Canada through Minnesota, but the Jeep is leaking again from the rear seal.

I had the rear seal replaced about 3 months ago at ~18,000 miles. I went to change the oil today and noticed it was leaking again at the same location. The mileage is now about 21,500. I drove it to Montgomery, AL about 2 weeks ago (1200 miles rt) with no apparent issues.

Now it is leaking again. Leaking enough to concern me that it won't make the round trip without being fixed.

The entire trip was planned around the JK. We were hoping to see some snow and the north woods for the first time in our 70 years.

I have half a notion to drive it until it seizes up and leave the POS along the road in ditch somewhere.

Things happen. They might have botched the install. Take it back to the dealer and make them fix it.If it happens again then obviously there is an issue .If they are going to have it for extended time tell them you want a Wrangler rental and you are going on a trip.

I know you are under time constraints but personally I would return to whoever replaced the seal and tell them to do it again and do it right. I can't think of any reason it should be leaking after only 3,500 miles unless they didn't install it correctly or damaged something in the process.

Also a leaking $6 seal doesn't make the entire vehicle a POS, I understand you are upset but try to be realistic.

Best wishes and I hope in the end you and the wife have a very nice road trip.

It might not be the seal, it could be the filter housing (common) which leaks down the back of the engine. Check the valley under the intake and behind the filter housing for oil.

Very cool that you are making a trek all the way up here to Canada. If you happen to cross the US border in Minnesota at Pigeon River shoot us a message and say howdy. You'll be headed to Thunder Bay. We have an active Jeep community here.
You may be disappointed though, there is no snow up here yet. Probably not for another month yet.

Don't be worried about the seal. Have it fixed before you leave or if it's not actually dripping on the ground, go on your trip, check your oil at fuel ups for piece of mind.

Looked at that. It is the seal, just as before. No leaks coming from above. Just out the grommets and onto the ground again.

That sucks. But I agree it is a install issue not meaning the rest of the jeep is a problem. Contact the dealer that did the original work.

One seal, not a POS. Two seals for any reason = POS.

Already called we will take it in Monday, unload it and then load up the G550 and go.

I second this, unless its leaking all over the place, I would just go and check it each time I filled up.

That's a better road trip vehicle anyway.

Is that a Gulfstream G550 business jet?

A 2014 you say? I would drive it anyways, if it was just done under warranty, let bastard blow and they can replace the entire motor
Are you sure they actually changed it?

more than likely just a shitty lazy pos tech at the dealer that did your service. i had a front axle seal problem on my 2015, had it in 3 times, for replacemement, ended up doing both sides and now only 2.5 months later the front diff is leaking, not dripping but sweating a lot. odd cause i blew out the rear diff seal on a rock and fixed it myself knowing that wasn't gonna be a warranty issue and its still good 4 months later.... ah dealer techs.... some great and a lot terrible. lots of big dreams to do cool auto work and end up doing repetitive shit on vehicles one may not care for.. i was of the same mindset, that my jeep was a total pos but i know thats not the case now that i've cooled down. come up to canada and enjoy!!!!! i'm up in cape breton and the leaves are just starting to change, snow is a long way off still this yr i hope!
