Fishing Pole Rack

Made this fishing pole rack yesterday that fits over my spare tire. I'm going to use it to haul my surf fishing poles to and from the beach. Any thoughts or ideas on it?

Can you take a closer pic? I am curious as to how the poles are secured to the rack.

That looks really good. Can you just lift it off the spare when not in use?

The poles are held just by the top crossbar. I'll probably put a simple zip tie on them just to be safe but it's held pretty tight as is. The rack can easily be removed when not in use.

So there's a horizontal piece behind the spare tire and the bumper supports the weight?

What an awesome idea! I am trying to brainstorm something I can attack to the interior of the hardtop to transport my bass rods bak and fourth with without having them slide all over, i was thinking a small diameter PVC pipe adhered to the roof of the hard top or something. But once again great idea, that is the way to go when transporting large surf tackle. If you don't mind be asking how much did that cost you to make?

I'll post some pics this evening of how it attaches. It's nothing too special; the right side of the rack fits behind the spare tire and the left side I zip-tied to the door handle. I'll also use a few bungee cords and secure it a little more to the spare tire; so the bungies will support the majority of the weight. I used pipe insulation to protect my paint and that alone makes the rack fit really snug on the spare tire.

I like it except you don't have enough rod holders....I would need two more

What size PVC 1-1/2" or 2"?

It's 1 1/2"... 2" is too big to fit between the back of the tire and tailgate.

After more debating on the design of my surf fishing pole rack; I scrapped my spare tire rack idea in fear of scratching up my paint. I've now made this fishing pole rack that attaches to a hitch cargo carrier.

i use these

I mounted the locking portion to my sound bar, just drilled to small holes, from the bottom, and a bigger hole on the top, and put fender washers in to spread the load. The rear portion I made some slots in the holder and put big hose clamps(i painted black so they are not noticeable) around the rear roll bar.

I could fit my 7' 1 piece surf rod inside my 4-door.

I'm interested in some sort of inside rod holder as well - leaving next week for a month long road trip to the Keys and want to bring along a couple of poles.

I built this one that will fit on the side of my hitch tray. I just strap it down. I like it because I can take it with me to my fishing spot.

Here is another shot. I used 1 1/4" conduit for the fresh water poles and 2" pvc for the salt water poles.
