Flat gas cap cover

I am wanting to add the black flat gas cap cover to my 2018 JK and I'm wanting opinions on which aftermarket one to get that is of good quality and fit.

Agree 100%. I bought one of the cheap (probably Chinese) knock offs to start with. The fit was terrible, would not stay in place, wanted to spin around. After about 3-6 months it started turning white. Took it off and later bought a real Mopar one from my local Jeep dealer. It fit great, has not moved. And after 2 years the color has not changed and it looks as good today as it did when I installed it. You may get a better price through Mopar parts online. They have a thread here on the forum. You may save some money or get free shipping. Here's a link for you, https://www.wranglerforum.com/f123/h...ts-154354.html

Flat gas cap cover

I have an AMP Research cover. Not much to say about it, looks great, high quality, made in USA, and functions as it should.

I am leaning towards the Mopar one and spending the extra money to get a better quality cap to begin with. Thanks for the opinion.

I went with Mopar even though the price is somewhat outrageous. When I was choosing, it seemed to be the only one that didn't have any reports of problems over time. Plus it didn't take any of the cheesy mounting shortcuts most of the other kits used (adhesives, self-tapping screws, or even magnets).

my question to all that have installed these, is doesnt it annoy the crap out of you when filling up? i had one and couldnt stand it when filling up. they look cool, but functionally, i would prefer a locking billet fuel cap.

For those that get it, no explanation is needed. For those that don't, no explanation is possible.

My Chief came with the Mopar one. It impressed me enough to try to find one for my TJ - no such luck. I like the looks and it is sturdy.

+1 for mopar one, i've had mine for 3 years now, never wiggled or moved at all, solid all the way around. I have to pry open with key, because of my fat fingers, but besides that, all good. don't cheap out on this purchase...

I bought and installed one a few months after buying the Sahara, and the Rubicon came with the same one installed. No, in the three + years of using it, I don't find any annoyance in using the Mopar fuel door.

My TJ came with an aftermarket locking on, it opened toward the rear which I didn't like (possibly put on upside down). I didn't like having to use a key either, it had one of the circular keys (similar to the ones on vending machines) so, if I lost one, I couldn't get a copy.

Then I got the Chief with a totally different and much nicer cover. I tried to find one similar for my TJ when I had it painted, but had to go with a cheaper one.

Are they really functional? Not really. They smooth out the looks on the left rear of the vehicle. I live in a semi rural area where theft of gas is not an issue. Besides, even with a locking cover or locking cap, if they really want your gas, they will just punch a hole in your plastic tank hanging very accessible in the rear of the Jeep.

just the opposite I like having it to plop the gas cap over when filling up to get it out of the way. When I fill my buddy's up who does not have one I remember why I have it. (I have put them on all my wranglers except my recon as it came with one)

Mopar has redesigned the later models and it actually has a larger area for you to stick your finger to open the door. I got mine about 2 years ago and it's the newer design and I love it. Looks great and works great. Here's a link to one on Mopar Parts Online with a picture.

in a weird way, i don't like the new one compared to the older version. The flatness of the old one is more desirable to me than the new one..
