Help Needed with JK Purchase - Overseas

Hello guys, new to the forums here. Danny from the Middle East (Don't get ideas lol).

I was looking to purchase the Rubicon Hard Rock when I know that my favorite color on this truck is discontinued for 2016. Copper Brown with Saddle Brown interior, so I decided to go with the all white instead.

Unfortunately the Hard Rock doesn't have the saddle brown option for the interior, only the Rubicon (dunno why). Since I really hate black leather, I decided to go with the White Rubicon with Saddle interior and upgrade it to become Hard Rock. I can always sell the other parts. The real difference is in the bumpers and hood, so these must be added. The other items pertaining to the Hard Rock edition, I can also purchase separately.

The Rubicon exists in my part of the world but doesn't come with options like leather and semi metal look bumpers. It has the same boring look as the Wrangler sport with the exception of rims and stickers. The price is also at a +$12,000 difference. So I decided to purchase a brand new one from Houston and have it shipped to my resident country. And since I am doing that, I also decided to purchase the "MUST HAVE" items from the US and have them shipped along with it. Not looking for something dramatic like lift kits, BBK's or aftermarket rims for now. Here is my list:

Powertrain 3.6-Liter V6 24-Valve VVT Engine 6-Speed Manual Transmission Next Generation Dana® 44 Heavy Duty Rear Axle - 4.10 Ratio Next Generation Dana® 44 Heavy Duty Front Axle - 4.10 Ratio Premium Suspension with Gas Shocks
Interior Manuf Statement of Origin Leather-Trimmed Bucket Seats Hard Top Headliner Black / Dark Saddle Interior Colors Radio 130 All-Weather Slush Mats by Mopar Air Conditioning with Automatic Temp Control Supplemental Front Seat-Mounted Side Airbags Alpine Premium 9-Speakers w/All Weather Subwoofer
Exterior Bright White Clear Coat Exterior Paint 17-Inch x 7.5-Inch Polished Mineral Gray Wheels LT255/75R17 BSW Off-Road Tires Freedom Top - Body-Color 3-Piece Hard Top Dual Top Group Body-Color Fender Flares Max Trailer Tow Package Connectivity Group Jeep Trail Rated Kit
Additional Parts Required: Rubicon Hard Rock Edition Front and Rear Metal Bumper Front Bumper Skidplate Rubicon Hard Rock Edition Power Dome Hood Steering Wheel Trim - Bronze Grab Handle Bronze Trim Tan Finish Trunk Mat Floor Mats Sunglass Bag Door Sills Emergency Tire Kit Hood Lock Hood Prop Kit Nozzle Wash (2 needed) Splash Guards Rear Splash Guards Front Wheel Locks Jeep Rubicon Sticker (2 needed) Panel Storage Bag Polar Edition Tire Cover
Those are all dealer supplied. What is missing are some really good aftermarket headlights, LED taillights, a Winch and the AMP retractable steps.

Thoughts?

P.S: For the headlights, I need ones which do not get yellow with the burning sun. I live in the Gulf...

Thanks
Danny

The all black interior kept me from buying the Hard Rock too.

Personally I wouldn't go for the Hard Rock bumpers. They're expensive and I feel like you can do better with aftermarket options. If you can get a shop in Houston to help with outfitting the Jeep it will really open up your options.

And if you get the retractable side steps, you will likely have to remove the rocker armor.

Hello Mike, thank you for your reply.

To be quite honest with you, don't want to go too extreme on the outer look of the truck with aftermarket bumpers unless they are subtle and better looking than the 10th anniversary.

Does the Rubicon come with the rocker armor or the hard rock?

I cannot trust anyone except myself and slightly the dealer. New problem just popped up now, dealers are refusing to export to me for some reason which I cannot understand. Can't people purchase new vehicles without registering them? All I want is to move on from the dealer to the Port on a flatbed.

There are two types of factory rocker protection. The Rubicon and Willys have rock rails which are just boxy armor that tucks under the rocker panel. The Hard Rock and some of the special editions have the "enhanced" Rubicon rails and those have an added tubular section. It helps keep the body from rocks, can probably be used as an assist step and would likely protect against parking lot door dings.

As for buying here and shipping, I know people do it but I can't offer any advice there. Perhaps an automotive forum based in your country can help?

Mike, I have no issues from my side. I inquired locally about everything and I was told that new cars imported from the US have no custom duties on them locally.

The problem is from the US/Dealers side. I mean no one can just purchase a new car and have it towed without registration, title, insurance to his home garage?

Every state probably has different rules for registration. Most places will require the title work. That is the only way to show the ownership transfer. Some states require that all titled vehicles be registered. In those states you are probably required to have insurance to get it registered. Vicious little circle.

I would look for a company that specializes in obtaining vehicles and shipping them. I don't know any off-hand, but I do know that they exist.

I understand the issue is here but perhaps someone in your area has accomplished a similar transaction. As for the rest, I didn't know honestly. Every vehicle I've purchased was driven off the lot.

I cannot trust sending my money to anyone except dealers. That's the problem, would you send +$40K to someone else?

Maybe we need to look for states who allow the sale of new cars the way I want it then, and... are on the sea side from TX to ME.

For what it's worth New Hampshire is one of the few states I know of with no sales tax.

Sales tax shouldn't be an issue since the jeep will be exported overseas. Granted some states might have some weird law on the books but most follow a destination based approach to sales tax.

I am talking about legitimate companies that buy and ship vehicles for people outside the country. Has to be some somewhere.

This is what I think and communicated too, but they were like "Things do not work this way...."
I still haven't found an "honest" dealer... well if I am lucky I will find one... to give me some objective information about this.

Any dealership sponsor on this forum? At least for info if he cannot ship too?

5 years ago I purchased a classic Mercedes off a very well known dealership in this business (California). It was used of course and I was able to trust them because of their rep.

I am not sure there are any for the new cars.

Danny,

as I posted on your other thread, check out this dealer that will sell international and has a rubicon hard rock:

I know you don't want the black leather, but talk to them and they "might" special order your jeep to your liking?

I sent them 4 emails without any reply from their part.

I will try to call them today and see if we can reach something over the phone.

Thanks man.

Yes, call them and explain your needs. If you just email, the might dismiss you as a scammer, since they probably get a lot of those emails.

You might want to check with Expat forums for your country. Someone may have already gone thru the process and be able to give you some tips.

This is a specific rule for Jeep in the US. It is a matter of who can do what without them knowing it kind of thing lol.
