Here's a story

As some of you may know, I recently turned in my 2008 2dr Rubi(leased) and purchased a 2012 2dr black Rubi about 5 weeks ago.Well it turns out that the dealership that purchased my 08 was the Lexus dealership ,that my brother-in-law works at , ( a couple miles from my home). He did not make the purchase, that is not part of his job at the dealership. So he texts me ,sending pictures of my Jeep,(he and I already verified that it was my mine). Not only did he text me photos of my Jeep, but he text me photos of him, driving my Jeep(08). !!!!
I have to admit, I felt terrible, I felt like I betrayed my Jeep, damn.( I know, why would you feel that way over a piece of metal?) Never the less, I felt terrible for a few days, and didn't even want to think about it.
Last night he calls me up and says,"guess what" , I said what? Somebody came to he dealership at 3:30 am Sunday morning and stole your Jeep!!!! We have it on video, and it appears to be a solo women( by the looks of the video).
My brother-in-law asked me if I ever had keys made, I said no, I never needed to have an extra key made,he stated ,because we still have the existing 2 keys here.
So what do you think?? did this woman hot wire it?? Can you hotwire a Jeep easily???
No other cars were stolen , only my 08 2dr Rubi. Isn't that interesting? hmmmmm.

AJ my poor Jeep ( I tried to indent, but it won't let me)

I worked for one of my uncles in highschool and college. He had an old Chevy truck that we worked out of and kept a bunch of equipment and material in. I don't think the entire time he owned it, which was several years, he ever took the keys out of it. The day after he traded it someone cut open the gate at the dealer, broke a window out of it, smashed the column and drove it off. It was recovered about a week later at the point where they think the thief ran out of gas.

That took some work.

Dodge uses an RFID Sentry Chip transponder. The PCM needs to know and accept the ID of the transponder chip in order to start. To program a new key you need two good keys. That's why you can give a key to a valet and they cannot duplicate it.

If you lose one of your keys, you need to go to the dealer (As JKOutlaw stated) to get a new key made. You'll need a copy of the title and proof of insurance. It's expensive.

So you should buy transponder blanks, have them cut (Home Depot will usually do it), and then follow the programming instructions in the manual.

Blanks are about $10 apeice on eBay.

The girl who store it probably has at boyfriend at another dealership.

Let me check again, I'm at the practice right now. I probably do have that. For some reason, I was thinking of a black plastic key as the valet.Thats not right though.

No it should be grey and restricts what the vehicle can do (i.e, not over 30mph, doesn't open the glove box,)

I handled key code info at General Motors as part of my job there...it is very closely monitored like corporate secrets. I'm sure the folks at Auburn Hills are as tightly security minded as GM was during my time there. Because the vehicle was still likely in the state system under the previous owner's name (public info), the thieves could have cooked up a "lost my keys" scenario with another dealership. I'll bet Chrysler has a record of key code requests and that would be my first phone call as a detective investigating the theft and then onto the dealer that released the codes to the locksmith.

.

No you dont, we cut keys everyday the dealer has zero to do it and any locksmith can get the transponder codes, you just have to have the right equipment..thier are a few manufactures that make us jump through flaming hoops for keys but its mostly european cars..
