I plan on purchasing a full set of Hothead Headliners in the next week or so, and I'm looking for opinions on the optional Hushmat add-on. It's 14 - 3"x23" strips for an additional $50. That seems a bit expensive, but my real question is if the 14 strips will make any noticeable difference in sound reduction. I understand that there will already be a certain amount of sound deadening without them, but a little more would be welcome if the Hushmat is truly effective.
Postscript: Yes, I know I could more than likely purchase the Hushmat elsewhere and make the strips myself for a reduced price. I'm more interested if the technique used would be effective. Thanks.
Unfortunately, I can't comment on the strips on the hardtop, but I just put HushMat on the entire surface under the carpet from front foot wells back to the tailgate. I also installed the BoomMat headliner kit. It is nearly silent in my JKU now.
Got 30 12x23" strips of HushMat on amazon for $260 ish. Math tells me that is about 8.5x more than you would get for $50.
I am assuming this is the same HushMat that HotHeads advertise for $369.00? I noticed Amazon had it in black or silver but, could not figure out if there was any difference or just color?
I put the hushmat in mine along with the hotheads liners. That said I only drove the Jeep for 1 day with the hardtop on when I bought it a few months back before I took it off for the softtop. When I put my hardtop back on last week I installed the hushmat and hotheads at the same time. So short version is I can't tell you if the hushmat made a difference however I can say it is fairly quite in the cabin now while cruising down the road.
I looked at the Dynamat for my speaker upgrade. Instead I used Window construction self sealing tape from HomeCheepo. I think it was about $12.00 for a 6" x 20' roll. Metal backed like the stuff above, used for drying in windows on new construction.
I do love my Hot Heads tho. best product available for the job and look like they were ment to be there from Jeep.
Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to hold off on the Hushmat. I'm thinking I'll simply go w/ a full set of graphite panels for now. I plan on popping the panels off and painting the visible white bits black once it gets warmer to somewhat complement the seat colouring. I may add Hushmat then while the panels are off.
For anyone considering HotHeads, they have a 15% off "overstock" special on black sets for JKU's.
$237 (reg $279) for top and $97.75 for sides (reg $115).
I just placed my order for the top. I didn't go with the hushmat. I'm thinking of buying some of the adhesive weatherstripping insulation from Home Depot and using that to "fill" the grooves of the top before installing the hotheads.
I originally sold my HT with HotHead headliners about a year ago. I realized I really missed the looks and sound reduction of the HT so I bought one about a month ago. I decided I needed the HH liners again, but this time I decided to see if the Hushmat made any difference. I will report back in this thread once I install my next set next week.
I had HH in a previous jeep and loved it. Just bought the liners and their hush at kit for the hard top using their thanksgiving discount. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the effectiveness of the hushmat. I won't be home to install for a few more weeks.
Well I installed the Hushmat and HH. I don't know how much the HM helps, but it definitely has diminished the noise above my head. I also think HH uses extra padding or thicker material than they used to.
I have the Hotheads Liners with Hushmat. Since I installed the Hushmat at the same time as the Hotheads, I can only say it is a lot quieter inside with the combo. However, I would not order the Hushmat from Hotheads, I would get it from Amazon or some other place and save some $$$.
I recently made a 7hr road trip and realized how loud the jeep really is inside. I realize people may have not measures actual decibel reduction, but does anyone have a measure of what the noise level dropped too?
For example I have the 430rbz, and in order for me to hear the music over the road noise, my volume setting is around 22, with the liner would that drop to say 18? I understand this isn't that clear cut, but something directional would help.
Don't do the hush mat, the price is ridiculous ! I did the whole inside of one of my Jeeps a couple years ago with a product called peel and stick. It came from Loews, a home improvement store. It's like home depot. It looks like the same product as Dynamat, hushmat , etc. If these products didn't have their name on it, you couldn't tell the diff. It's also A LOT cheaper. It had nothing to do with price when I installed it, it was all the reports and testimonies I have heard on the web that convinced me to try it. I'm glad I did. For the price, you could go buy a roll and try it somewhere.
I did a quick search for "peel and stick" under Amazon - Home Improvement and found a bunch of kiddie stuff, lol. Is there a brand or other descriptor for this product? Thx.
I would not expect the headliner to do much for noise reduction from your exhaust. Try some hush mat or similar product on your floorboard under the carpet.
Thank you! I will add the hush mat to my wish list!!
