How Much $ Have You Spent in the Rabbit Hole

In the beginning my intentions with the new JK were one thing, how quickly that changed. My rational to validate the metamorphosis is this; The previous rig (1990 YJ) was done shoestring budget style, and looked it. Its entire time with me was fun as heck with many broken and replaced parts. Anyway, to the point, I have spent grandly on this rascal and am quite ambivalent to that fact.

This rig has gone into the 5 figures in mods. What has your trip cost ya? Ballpark or accurate, whatever you choose to share.

So, your goal is to be able say "hay, mom, no fair. The other guys got to spend $__,___ on their JK's."

Nowhere near 5 figures here but we pretty much liked it the way it was factory stock when we drove it home from the dealer.

I'll play. Bought an AEV built JK off the lot thinking... Wow, I'm not gonna be rock crawling anymore so I won't need to change a thing... Unlike my previous TJ which I could barely drive on the street anymore. I should have known better. Here's a pic of it on the lot and the way it sits today. Roughly 30k in upgrades... So far

Mine came with most of what I wanted

At some point I would like to change my rock sliders over to a
step with a slider built in and possibly new bumpers to match.

Id probably commit suicide if I added everything up over the years. 2 YJs, 3 TJs, 3 JKs, an XJ, a XK and a thank god we left it stock WK (one JK stayed basically stock as well somehow). Lets not talk about the "I'm gonna tow them places" F250 and F350 plus 5th wheel flat bed phase of my life. Took this pic today in the driveway.... FML

PR 44 front with 300m axles and spyntec hub conversion. Rear is trussed with 300m axles. If need be I still plan on going to 60's. With the hub conversion the bolt pattern was changed so I can use the same wheels with a 5 lug 60. So far this combination has worked really well.

I'm right under or just over 3k.

However, that number is skewed a little since I got into a front end accident that tore up all front control arms, tie rod, track bar, drag link and sway bar links. Everything I replaced w Metalcloak components except sway bar links(jks), that whole add on only cost me a couple hundred and insurance took care of the rest.

Say no to suicide. Money well spent and as you know "ya can't take it with ya". You've had quite a stable of these critters.

Leaves on the trees in your photo? Only the oak and beech have leaves here, and of course snow cover too. Those two don't drop their leaves till spring.

Yup, haven't had the need to do anything with the lights. If wheeling at night I have rock lights that I can turn on.

I figure I probably have at least 15 thousand in mods now.

The only mod left I really want to do is Steel color keyed jerry cans on the sides of the front fenders. Someone put up a pic of "jeep Africa" with side mounted tanks and I really fell in love with the look.

Just hit $30K+ in mods with PR60s not including the swapped out parts original cost (PR44, regear, wheels and tires). If I learned anything its that incremental modding is not the way to go. I would have saved a lot of money by doing it once and getting a loan or using a credit card. But, this is my first Jeep and I made many more good decisions than bad ones.

So true, it's the redoing over and over that adds up.

My gen 1 from qtec are insanely better than stock, it's absurd. I live in deer country, I think they've saved me from deer collisions at least three times, once my dog spotted the deer before I did.

My off-road lights are illegal on the street.

I DD my JKUR. Those lights have paid for themselves a couple times at least.

I had probably $7500 in 16 JKU Sport S.
Ive been more budget friendly and needed less upgrades on my JL. Im at 1200$ and may only invest another $500-1000 and will be more than happy. This time Im rolling on 33s with soon to be a Rubi lift and the 16 was on 35s and 2.5 lift.
35s def need more $ throw. At them and theres less nickel and dime crap in need to throw on the JL. No interior bulbs, HD hinge, six switches, grill inserts, regear, etc.

Loved my 16 but rolling with a little less on the JL and seems to fit my needs. Now that I have neck issues let alone fused lower back, my fun capacity and capabilities are narrowing.
But still love Jeeps and the JL will keep me in one longer. If I ever give up the Jeep going back to a pickup. I love the new Silverado.

i think im around 12-14k in mods so far. i have plans to do something with the axles to run 40's, either 44 up front or super60 front and 14 bolt rear, but not quite decided yet.

that will add about 7-8k to the list.

Lets just say between the Jeep, 3 Harleys, 3 full tool boxes and table lift etc... It's probably best that I don't know a total cost at this point. Just happy that everything but the Jeep is payed for and I can go play anytime I want to.

I did some budgeting this year because I'm working on getting out of some credit card debt. Did the math and in the last year I spent 15k on my jeep. Needless to say it still wont stop. 15k down and well over 15k more to go with what I want to do to my jeep. And worth every damn cent too
