Installed my winch today

Rugged Ridge 8500

Next issue

I have about 1/2 an inch of bump stop play now. Looked at a stock JK it has 4 maybe 5 inches. Guess it is time for a lift but should I do a lift and a spacer for the front to off set the extra weight?

Very impressed with the winch so far.

Well I have had this pretty little thing sitting on my bumper for almost a month now went to use it yesterday to do a straight line pull and the cable pulled right out of the winch. Jeep was not stuck had it in neutral was just going to stretch the cable and it broke loose and then uncoiled and fell to the ground.. Kind of mad as when I received this winch it had some cosmetic damage almost appeared it had been installed then removed and re-boxed. But I was in a hurry was about go on a trip and figured I was going to scratch it a little installing it anyway. I am kind of happy with the winch, I mean it looks pretty well built I just did not like the way the remote plugs in seems like a really fragile design. Just my follow up after install. Contacted Rugged Ridge about the cable eye breaking and cable pulling out will see what can be done to fix it.

So something broke and the entire length of the cable rolled out? Or you spooled out the entire length of the cable and tried to do a pull? Even with minimal load, you should leave 4-5 revolutions of cable around the drum at all times.

I was just reading about that in the "4 wheelers bible". He said 5 loops for wire and 8 for synthetic.
