Is Anyone tubular?

Hey All,

Been thinking on bumpers. No matter how many I look at - the Darth Vader "look" is a turnoff. Seems hard to find a winch capable straight mid-tire length bumper with holes for lights and a bull bar. That said there is likely one out there. But looking through the bumper thread (I didn't look at every page) it seems like nobody uses tubular. I like the tubular look. A tubular straight like I described I think would be great. Why do so few jeeps seem to use them? Is there an inherent deficiency with a tubular bumper?

I had the "tube" bumpers on my 97' TJ. I just think it's an old school look circa 70s-90s.

Ed,

The Barricade Tubular Bumper is close to what you're looking for, except for the light mounts. You'd have to figure something out for those. Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like a price!

Actually, I wouldn't mind a quote on both the Barricade Front Tubular Bumper (w/o winch mount) that is $209.00 as well as the Rear Tubular Bumper (wrap-around style) that is $189.00. Thanks!

Seems like this is what you're asking for to me:

JCR does make a great bumper, but unfortunately that isn't a tubular bumper like OP was looking for.

OP, if you change your mind about wanting something tubular, JCR is a great option!

Tubular bumpers aren't very strong. They don't handle real abuse...they were more popular back in the 70s and 80s when tubular chrome was the popular look.

But here you go, exactly what you want. 5 second search on Google:

Jeep Bumpers; Tubular Style from the Auto Accessory Superstore

I came very close to purchasing the Olympic Boa bumper, but went with the LoD armor lite mid-width, which is a also pretty traditional looking bumper.

Hey All,

Well thank you everyone. I guess first I need some bell bottoms!

Interesting that tubular is not very strong - I would have expected it to be plenty strong - perhaps not as strong as the traditional bumper with a plate between body and bumper but still ok. Is a tube bumper generally lighter than a traditional one of the same size? Part of my consideration of tubular is weight as well as looks. I am still interested.

As an aside Ryan I will likely be after at least some of that cargo netting but since you don't ship to Canada I will have to coordinate having it delivered to my fatherinlaw or sister on a visit to the US.

There is a reason they went out of style. I agree with the weight issue. Get a nice aluminum bumper.

Warn a guy before you post chrome like that. You could hurt someone's eyes or their sense of style. By the way, does that thing come with a cassette player too? Sheepskin seat covers? Euro ground effects? Back window louvers? Baby on board sign?

OK, I'll stop. Honestly, I had black tube bumpers on my 99 TJ.

A graphic equalizer?

Haha I was quite shocked when I found that bumper. I was honestly looking for over the top chrome accented trucks from the 80s to make a joke, but then I found that thing. But you know what? It still looks "Jeepy". It actually works on that JK. And it meets all of the OP's requirements. It's also available in black.

I said tubular bumpers aren't as strong, but of course that will depend on what they are made of. The ones I was thinking of were lightweight and meant more for looks than protection. Some of them could be quite strong I suppose but I've seen a lot of dented tubular bumpers. I'd rather have thick steel myself.

Also, I'm surprised no one answered the OP's question "Is anyone Tubular?" The obvious answer here is "Totally. Totally Tubular, Dude"

Had simple tube bumpers on my TJ years ago...they got bent big time during a Seattle snowstorm...a suburban tried to go up Military Drive when I was stuck in a ditch and nailed me on its slide back down. Switched to Smitty's after that.

This is my wife's JKU that I put on a few months back...Before I got the cover plate installed.

Which brings up a question.....what do y'all do with your old stock bumpers? I've tried to sell em on FB or CL...no luck. About to take them to the steel recycler...

I ran a Rugged Ridge tube bumper for years. It was very strong and sturdy.

I changed the look up recently and although I liked the previous look, I much prefer this now.
