Jeep Hoods

What’s your process of getting a new hood?
Are you having it delivered to paint shop?
Are you installing it first and then take the Jeep to the paint shop?
What do you do with old hood if it’s in great condition?
How do you get rid of old hood if no one wants it?

I can answer the last two, as I did it with my TJ

1) list it everywhere. you may get a bite on it

2) if nobody wants it in the timeframe you need it gone, call your local 311 number and schedule it for bulk pickup.
2a) if you have a metal scrap yard or highschool/learning center that you know has welding equipment, or a metal shop, donate it there. I remember laying welds on some old hoods back in my high school days just to learn it. We also used them for scrap metal, or to learn other stuff like automotive touchup/dent pulling. I never knew I'd own a Jeep(s) but all of that stuff came in very handy, especially with my TJ.

3. paint then install
4. save it on garage wall
5. someone will need it someday

Body shop ordered a 10a Power Dome kit for me at a discount (cheaper than anywhere else). They had it shipped to them with zero shipping cost. They checked for damage and could have sent it back for a replacement if needed. It arrived with zero issues.
They painted and paint matched after installing.
Old hood sat in garage for a year until someone took it for free. I advertised all over with zero luck of selling it.

A natural market for the old hood is to Jeepers who will be doing a Poison Spyder hood louvre install:

Better to pick up a stock hood in the right color (provided it has been priced right) in case something goes wrong, or you want to return the Jeep to stock.

Someone may also want to snorkel a second hood instead of cutting into their Recon or Hard Rock hood.

I did not know that it fits in the back of the Jeep! Then it takes some of my concerns away on how to take the new hood to a shop or old hood to a scrap yard or wherever.

Not sure if I'm allowed to use links, so I will say, CarParts Dot Com has JK hoods (maybe others?) listed as 82% off or something crazy like that..... they are stock-type hoods primered black..... no hardware etc... so re-use what you have..... I need one to take off my snorkel, and it's like $95 Was VERY surprised to find a steel hood for so cheap.... just an FYI to those maybe in need of a hood.....

My only issue is considering how I will paint it. I will never be able to get it to match a 2012 paint-job, so I'm thinking of truck-bedliner and calling it a day.

If it's an aftermarket hood, which I assume it is, fitment can be an issue. Hopefully not.
As for paint, any good paint shop can tint the paint to match regardless of the age of the paint. They do it every day when and older vehicle has panel damage and needs paint. Otherwise there would be cars all over with mismatched doors, hoods and fenders.

Fitment of my aftermarket hood was excellent. My paint shop provided a perfect match.

After driving four JKU's it took me months to get used to the "power bulge" hood on my 2018 JKU Altitude. Why want anything other than the stock hood?
