JKUR vs FORD F250

Wife, dog and I planned a day trip from Redding Ca. to Yreka and back, taking I-5 up and hwy 3 "mountainous" back. 220 total miles.

Since it was freeway most of the way, I decided to take the F250 because it likes running at 70 mph and got 20.6 mpg. It took 11 gallons "diesel" to fill truck after the 220.6 miles.
Our Jeep likes 60 mph, and gets about 18 mpg on that type of drive, "mountains".
Cost of fuel was not the main concern. Being able to drive at 70-75 mph was more important for time constraint.

Why I am writing about this, is that at Yreka we found that on a ridge of hwy 3 they had not removed the snow. So, we did not take hwy 3 back home.
If we had taken the Jeep, we would have no problem taking that route.
So if I had to do it over again, I would have taken the Jeep.
Our Jeep is slower, but it's ability to go where other vehicles can not go, makes it the better choice.
Sure I can run our JKUR at 70-75 mph, but it is not as stable as our truck at that speed.

Did I ever tell you about the time I blew the doors off a F250 turbo diesel?

Before his turbo spooled I had the jump and walked away from him. His exhaust bellowing black soot, huffing, puffing.. he caught me after I pulled my foot off the throttle.

Haha.. that was a good race.

Speaking of F250's vs JKUR's. My 06 F250 6.0 was over heating yesterday. Jumped in my jeep and now don't want to fix my 6.0. Just a fan clutch no biggie. Love my 250 but I completely agree with you about circumstantial driving. My girlfriend doesn't like riding in my jeep going down interstate so I normally take my truck. Although if it wasn't for my line of work and need for a truck I wouldn't even have it!

I have the best of both worlds. A 2007 2500 Chevy/crew cab/diesel and a 2015 Jeep /2 door / Wrangler. Love the Jeep and love my truck. My truck rides better than any car I have owned on the highway. I have always told my grandkids, " It's not a truck unless it's a DIESEL."

The go anywhere is definitely a plus. I do miss my 500hp corvette though, cruise set to 75mph steady 30-32mpg

Seems all of you and I have something in common.
Our truck is a 2012 Ford F250 Super Duty 400 hp 800 ft.lbs. torque diesel. The only way our Jeep would out run it, is if the race was for five feet, and the Jeep took off first.

We also have a 2002 Corvette, that we installed a supercharger that makes 530.8 hp to the rear wheels, but we only get 29 mpg at 75 mph.

We also have a 5th wheel that we pull behind our pickup, and yes, it seems like you are in your home in the easy chair when driving the truck.

Still, if we had taken the Jeep, we could have taken that trip along hwy 3 although the ride would have been slower and less comfortable.

...ah, the complexities of enjoying a cup that overfloweth.....

enjoying the benefits of my own Ram Hemi 2500 4x4 for many years, I found its particular advantages to have become of less need than my JK now serves daily.

Second to last vehicle was a 07 superduty powerstroke.

One of the worst trucks ever made. I got it used from a well maintained electrical contractor/company. Looked great had only 120k miles on it. I tell you the rear doors sagged and shook it rode very rough on the freeway. But...it cruised 80mph all day smoothe (the engine atleast) as silk. The last straw was the second remanufactured turbo blocking up and throwing an engine light. Off to the dealer auction with that stupid thing.

But when you floored it to get on an onramp holy cow those things move Would have been great if I needed more towing but for hauling motorcycles around it was overkill. Not to mention a nightmare to park in the city .

So yes....jeeps > f250's!

Here on Photobucket I have some stuff that we have. I ran our Corvette on the dyno twice. One was 530.8 rwhp and one was 527rwhp. Our real fun ride is our Falcon drag car. We are waiting to get our new 511ci race engine. The old 434ci engine was rated at 850 hp. at the flywheel.

lol the difference between torque and horsepower is that it would have been different if you were both pulling a trailer, which is what diesels are intended for, now days every kid with a rich dad has a "race truck" on 24" wheels.

7.3's are slow as balls, but who cares when they are still running at 800,000 miles

I don't get it, there are very few roads no matter what conditions that I would feel it was safe to take the jeep down but not my diesel.

My diesel is a 2wd not a 4wd, and the pass was not cleared of snow.

No, you just park the JK in the rear "toy garage", and you'll have some actual fun when you arrive.

Nah......cant do that, the Raptor only has a 12 foot garage, so the RZR gets to ride in that, but then I have a 38 foot enclosed gooseneck that is my portable shop that the JEEP gets to ride in! That one has plenty of room for the JEEP, tools, air compressor, genny and whatever else I want to bring along!

Ah, so close. A JK needs 12.75 feet.

I traded my 2011 F250 to a Hard Rock the day after the DEF pump failed. I would never go that route again.
