Key fob stops working

I had to get a new key fob. It was working for a while then it stopped. Replaced the battery and it worked again. Then a few days later it stopped. Replaced it again and again it worked right away but then stopped.

What could be causing this? Bad key fob itself?

GENTLY pry up on the battery contacts to ensure good contact. Also, dunno if you can see in this pic, but the little bumps on my contacts are dirty and need to be cleaned with a little alcohol. The big gold square needs to be clean too.

"THANK GOD!!" I thought I was the only one having this problem. I have to do this 'tune up' every 3-4 weeks or one or both of my fobs quit working. My wife's fobs aren't having this problem at all. Not even once and hers are 6 months older than mine are. I think she is even on her first set of batteries also. PLEASE, if anybody has come up with a permanent solution for this problem, I would sure appreciate hearing about it.

I know if I take it to the STEALERSHIP, they will recommend a head shrink and put it back on me. AND if h22lude replaced his and the NEW ONES also are doing it, that isn't a viable solution either.

I know this seems like a minor annoyance, but having to do this every 3-4 weeks adds up. How many times can the fob be opened before it won't close tightly. AND, if BOTH of them go out at the same time, you have to fix it before you get yourself back into your Jeep or the alarm will go off if you open the driver door with the key and not the unlock button. PLUS, someday, those tabs that I have been bending to give more tension to the battery will break off and then what.

Does anybody know of a REPUTABLE (maybe, made in USA) replacement for these POS FCA fobs. I would GLADLY purchase new ones rather than keep on doing this unnecessary song and dance.

Doing that worked right now but opening it and putting it back together seemed to work for a little while too. I'll have to see if it keeps working. I pried them up a good amount so hopefully they won't want to bounce back down.

Same here, been through 4 new fobs and new batteries all around. Sometimes they work for a few days, sometimes months. When they stop working I pull the battery, put it back in and they work again. So I do not think its a fob issue. Again, I've tried several new ones, same problem comes back.

I've read it may be a symptom of a TIPM problem.

I just started using the other fob when parts literally fell out of my non working one. No one else drives my Jeep so it's no bother to anyone else

I don't. I just ordered one of these because I have JL fob envy, but when I got it in my hands, it's HUGE and it's HEAVY. So I don't think I'm even going to bother having it cut. People do report success using it on JKs, though.

Seems the Ignition Off Draw (IOD) fuse can get loose and cause issues: https://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/k...ms-106642.html

Can also be a Wireless Control Module (WCM) going bad: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stoc...s-99201/page3/

I am thinking maybe a small circle of tin foil or alum. foil under the battery might tighten things up a bit. I never bend the tabs on mine up fare enough to flex them. I know ultimately, they will break off. So I tweak them just barely enough to see a difference. I also carry BOTH keys when I drive either Jeep because of this problem. I put the spare on a carabiner on a belt loop. A spare key does nobody any good at home on a hook. The wifey carries her spare in her purse, just in case. Just like the CCW and the winch, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and NOT have it.

Back to square one. It worked the day I lift the tabs but has stopped again. I took the back off the key fob but didn't replace the battery. I put the cover right back on. It started working again. Taking the back off seemed to have reset it, almost like restarting a frozen computer. I don't have a second remote so I can test if it is the remote or not. I have a valet key. I may buy another one online and program it myself then see if they both do it or if it is just one.
