Lots of questions...

I am strongly considering buying a new 2011 Wrangler.

1. I know the 2012 has 80+ more HP. That's a lot in my book, but does it really make much difference? I can get a 2011 for cheaper and 0% interest!

2. I am looking at the Sport S. Mechanically speaking, is ther much to be gained from the Mojave or Sahara? The Rubicon sounds like the most bang for the buck if I am going to upgrade.

3. Are there any no brainer gas mileage upgrades?

4. Does gas mileage vary much between the different gear ratios? Because of low HP, I prefer the lower gears.

5. This will be a DD. Should I be looking at the Unlimited for a better ride? My commute will be from 1 -4 hours (or more) but only 2-3 times per month. I have a couple of young kids so I can see taking the top off a riding around for fun sometimes, but I will be driving, by myself probably 85% of the time.

Bonus Question: What size tires and how much lift does it take to get this stance?

Here is my take:

1. Drive both. Only you can decide. For me the 2012 was a no-brainer.
If you want auto, don't even look at a 2011 :-)

2. I bought a Sport S unlimited, 3.73, limited slip. My evaluation was that it will work
better as a DD. If you plan on crawling rocks, get a Rubicon.

3. No. Wind resistance of a single family home. Not much you can do. Drive slower. :-)

4. Not really. Your lead foot and correct tire pressure make more of a difference than
anything else. YMMV.

5. Kids = gear = trunkspace. Get the unlimited.

Bonus question: No idea. I leave that to the experts.

1. Using Chrysler Affiliate Rewards the 2011 is not cheaper than the 2012 by a significant amount. You will appreciate the 12 not only of the engine, but for the other refinements as well.

2. The only mechanical gain is with the Rubicon and it is a waste if you aren't going to wheel it fairly hard. You can build a better all around vehicle out of a Sport for less money.

3. The best no brainer mileage upgrade is to get the 2012. We are averaging around 18 mpg on 33" Duratracs, others are seeing over 20. The only time we got less than 18 mpg was a trip to Texas Friday night against a 20 mph headwind and we got 16 mpg.

4. See above. Your driving technique will decide. FWIW, on the trip Friday night I downshifted to 4th to pass someone on the highway and then back to 5th, but forgot to shift to 6th. I drove that way for probably 50 miles and the dash readout never changed. I have 3.73s, so that would have been about like driving in 6th with 4.56s. If there is a difference it is minimal.

5. Unlimited. I can't imagine trying to stuff rugrats, their seats, and all the other associated kid crap in a 2 door.

A Sahara or Mojave (a rebadged Sahara) will include better shocks than what come on a Sport S. Otherwise, no, the improvements going to a Sahara will be cosmetic. A Rubicon will possess those better shocks as well as legitimate offroading upgrades.

4 door. You'll want to take the family around in this in lieu of whatever minivan you're driving now. Trust me.

That's probably 2.5" of lift on 35s. Look over this thread for pics and so on.
