Maximus-3 low profile grille guard

Iím considering adding a Maximus-3 low profile grille guard to my Jeep; the one thatís slanted back to match the grille incline.. I like how it looks. But looking at the photos it looks like the tubes come too close to the tow hooks.

Questions for those who have one of the Maximus-3 bumper hoop/grille guard: can you still use the tow hooks?

I have read some reviews that complained it doesn't leave enough gap to fit a strap, while others say there is enough and it's actually a good thing because it makes it much less likely for the strap to fall off.

There could be some variation part to part as far as how the tube lines up with the bolt footprint if they manually weld the base to the tube, and of course it will also vary a lot with how thick your strap is.

Not that metal on metal is the best, but you could of course attach a strap to the hook with a shackle.

I'm running the Maximus-3 low profile guard. The reinforced loop on my ARB recovery strap isn't close to fitting between the bar and tow hooks. Didn't want to go with a different strap, so bought the Bubba Rope Gator Jaw 7/16" soft shackle. I thread the loop end of the Gator Jaw between the tow hook/Maximus-3, through ARB strap loop and over the knot end of the Gator Jaw. Weighs next to nothing compared to steel d-ring shackle, great breaking strength, doesn't rattle, chip or rust, allows use of nearly any strap and as DesertRubi mentioned in previous post, won't slip off tow hook.

I run the Mopar hoop and chose it for that reason. Plenty of room between the bar and hooks. The Maximus is a bigger diameter.

The Mopar hoop is also angled forward, isn't it?

Yes. I thought I wouldnít like it but I really do and itís half the price and a much easier install. Just not braced like the Maximus. I can snap a few pics for you tomorrow if you want.

One thing I will say I ordered from Amazon and sometimes the powder coat can be chipped in delivery. Mine was and I got a $50 credit from Amazon so it cost me $85. Worth it to me to touch it up myself. I think the Maximus is better quality, but doesn't look much better.

I just looked at the Mopar hoop (Part No. 77072349): Wow, it is half the price of the Maximus-3!

I like the slanted design better, but the price difference is significant.

The Mopar also seems to have wider bolt-down areas; probably to make up for no braces underneath. And seems to leave more room for the tow hooks.

Question @DallasRecon : how thick is the tubing on the Mopar hoop? 2 inches?

I don’t think you are highjacking the thread. Those are relevant questions.

In my case, I already got a winch; I sure hope I don’t have to replace it. I got a Warn Zeon 10, which should last a long time —probably longer than the Jeep itself!

With regards to lights: personally I don’t like the looks of light bars. But I do plan to add a pair of 6 or 7-inch round lights at some point. I should still be able to mount them using the Maximus-3 auxiliary light brackets, or the PIAA light brackets that clamp onto the tube itself.

If I were to go with the Mopar hoop I’d have to go with the clamps anyway.

I don’t know if you can mount a light bar with the Maximus-3 light bar brackets with the Mopar hoop. That’s a good question.

I don't have the low-profile hoop, but I do have the classic hoop (kink in the bends, similar to the AEV front hoop bumper). I haven't tried to slip a recovery strap into the hook, but I quickly discovered it's excellent to hook the dog leash onto so I don't have to worry about the pupper darting off after a rabbit or squirrel while I'm working in the garage on something.

It does look like a strap would fit though. Same rake as the low-profile hoop. I have a Warn 9500 CTi-S under it on the Maximus winch mount.

Had the Maximus LP on my HR Also. Nice piece, bitch to install and rendered the two recovery hooks useless. Rusted too.

I like nice hidden winch and look smooth but what the proposal of the bar is the guard the radiator and grill plus the esthetic look of it what else can be used for. ??? I am trying to justify spending the money for it if can be used for some

I tried that once, back with my YJ.

I wasn't paying attention, and at first didn't grasp why my dog was suddenly bothering me, and licking my ear. Then I realized that he was able to pull my YJ along when his leash was attached to the tow hook.

No issues with Warn VR10, I don't know about a Zeon which is a big winch and also requires to relocate the vacuum pump unlike the VR series.

Thankfully Tollers aren't strong enough to pull a 5500+lb JKU, but I'll make sure the parking brake is set.

Agree on install, upside is it's rock solid. Soft or hard shackle simple workaround on tow hook clearance. I Fluid Filmed the inside of the tube before install and hit exterior a couple times a year and so far no rust issues in the couple years it's been on.

Regardless of brand, chipped powder coating during shipping seems to be a common problem. Northridge gave partial refund when showed up with a couple chips where it broke thru box.
