Mopar Off-Road Bumper

I've been digging a bit to get some thoughts on the Mopar Off-Road bumper. I have a chance to get a new one for $500. I have some questions for those that have it or know (sorry if this has been answered, etc, but I didn't find the info I was looking for)

1. How much does it weigh
2. Is the winch/grill security bar removable (whatever you call that arch)
3. Any pictures?
4. Is that a good deal for a quality bumper? I've been shopping around $500 seems like a nice price for a really good bumper, question is, is it really good?

Thanks

I have the Mopar off road bumper with fog lights and winch on my 10 Rubi and I like it a lot. I don't know how much it weighs. The "bar" is not removable. No picture but you can easily find it doing a search, or I'm sure someone will post. Again, I think it's a good bumper. I have no complaints.

It is a nice bumper. As kik noted the hoop is permanent. A call to the dealer will give you the weight, although it isn't that darned heavy, but if you drop it on your toe, it'll hurt. Ours was shortened, and is awaiting D ring mounts in place of the tow hooks, and a good paint job, but this will give you an idea...

One thing I don't like about it is the plastic boxes that cover the crush cans... it's not a replaceable part. Meaning if you crunch one, you can't just get a new one from the dealer... That's why ours are gone, along with the cans. Other than that, it is a really nice looking bumper, IMO. Look around at the for sale threads and CL, ebay, etc. You may find a good deal on a used one.

Another thing about that bumper is that you can not mount the Warn PowerPlant in it if thatís the winch you want. Other than that I think itís a great looking bumper.

That's a major design flaw for an "off-road" bumper, or any other for that matter. You're bound to hit something somewhere...Yikes

I'm ok with that. Thanks for the info though. Good to know.

I'm not huge on the hoop on a bumper in general, but at least this one is pretty small. I think this bumper makes the short list.

Did you end up getting this bumper? I have the same offer the dealer gave you and want to see how it looks with some 6" fog lights mounted on it.

Nope. Waiting to see if the 2012 Off Road bumper is the COD one pictured on facebook with no hoop (later pictures had a hoop, so I'm confused). It's the AEV bumper and it looks great.

It comes out in October.

I agree - the AEV looks great. I just assumed the delayed release date was to redesign the existing bumper just enough to clear some obstruction that is new for the '12.

I'm actually after the hoop/bumper combo and want to mount the lights to it.

My dealer was not confident that the 11 would fit on the 12. Also, the 12 out in Oct is $1,500, premium bumper...I am awaiting that one too.

I'm in the same position as you regarding this bumper. I think (and I only think-no solid info) the bumper on the COD 2012 IS the new MOPAR bumper and the redesign to accommodate the new bumper mounted can necessitated the removal of the hoop/grill guard. The pics in the MOPAR accessory catalog that Milous shared show the previous MOPAR front bumper. I don't see hook eyes or rings on the COD front bumper and it looks like bolts that maybe attaching a three part bumper together in the COD pics.

Many questions I have.

That has to be the AEV then. The Mopar this year was like $600 or $700.

That's what I was thinking, especially since they are calling it "premium" just like AEV

Where did you see the price? Did they have the price for the rear bumper too? I saw the Aug and Sept Mopar catalogs, but thought there was no pricing.

The parts guy had the 2012 catalogue...he said he just got it. No picture, available October, $1,500 will sell to me -15%.

I asked him to double check because price was almost triple current offerings.

That is high. The AEV is only $1200. I imagined they would be similarly priced at MSRP. Maybe with a small markup.

They look identical to me. Even has that red emblem in the middle. One set of pictures has no bar, the other set has the bar. That's the only difference I could see.

Coem to think of it, the pictures of the one with the bar are for the Call of Duty Elite event, so I wonder if they just used a current AEV bumper so they had something, since they haven't started production yet. The MW3 photos have no bar. I think this is the case and this will be the bumper they are offering:

Also, regarding the crush cans on the AEV and Mopar bumpers, they are necessary to have a DOT compliant bumper that is not labeled for "Off road use" only. They work to mitigate the frontal impact force to prevent airbag deployment that could occur without the cans. An airbag deployment would also be an expensive bump.

There is no listed 2 inch MOPAR lift but I am also waiting on that. The press release for the COD states a 2" MOPAR lift as an accessory.

Deal I negotiated was 20% off MOPAR parts with the 2012 JK. Otherwise I'm going with the AEV lift.

The red symbol is the WARN winch symbol, I believe in those pictures.

Good deal. That's pretty much what I got other accessories from them for. Mopar parts have 3 prices: factory invoice, wholesale and MSRP. Wholesale was 20% below MSRP on everything I bought already. Factory price = dealer invoice/cost.

My dealer and I had a miscommunication on doc fee. He couldn't remove it and it was high. He offered a year of oil changes, I change my own oil. I asked for bumpers at dealer cost when they come out. He said yes. Hoping that will be a lot more savings than the doc fee!

I think you're right on the Warn symbol. All pics seem to have a Warn winch.
