Question MOPAR vs Rugged Ridge mirror relocation brackets

Is one significantly better than the other? Is the $7 premium worth paying for the original MOPAR brackets, or is it just a waste of money?

Really? But they couldn't be exact as that would be a violation of copyright. So basically what you're saying is the few extra dollars for the MOPAR bracket is just for the name?

1: Print out Rugged Ridge mirror bracket catalog listing
2: Show listing to parts department
3: ????????
4: Buy cheaper MOPAR brand

i go to my jeep dealer often enough and buy discounted mopar parts. as long as it meets his company's minimum margin target, he gives it.

Copyrights apply to intellectual property. Many companies sell the same product with a different name. Mopar does not make any accessories. It's just a licensing agreement. They charge more so as not to compete with the original manufacturer. People pay more because they think they are buying a factory part.

Want another example? Take a look at the Rugged Ridge floor liners, then look at the Quadratec or 4WD Parts floor liners. Exactly the same except for the name.

In many cases the Mopar part can be had very competitively in price. Our local Jeep club gets 15% at one local dealer and I get 20% discount at my dealer for Mopar parts. Depending on the part, the price can be very competitive. If the price is competitive, I like to keep some of my dollars in the community.

That sounds like exploitation...

Except for the people who bought original MOPAR and then realize it's a relabeled product.

They are exploiting the ignorant people who don't realize the brackets are the same and MOPAR is just a middle man. They are simply using a popular name to make more money based on ignorance. Right, exploitation.

Yes, Comrade, the western capitalists are evil and greedy. Seriously, you must be living under a rock if you were not aware of these type of things. Ever shop for a mattress? Many products are made by only a few manufacturers. Oil filters come to mind. There are only about three actual manufacturers of them. The Mopar ones are made by Wix. Ever purchase a Kenmore product from Sears?

Back in the 80's I had an Aunt who was a factory worker and a die hard buy American right wing union activist. One day she came home with a brand new Geo Prism. I asked her why she bought a Japanese car. She swore it was all American because it was a GM product. I showed her that the car was really a Toyota Corolla. She actually went back to the dealership and reamed them out.
