My Jeep vs Nissan Sentra...guess who won?

Stop and go traffic..nothing over 5 mph. She was tailgating me the entire time stopping VERY VERY close every time and I felt it saying to myself..I am going to break and...

Yup. Hit me at probably 10 MPH? Pretty sure she was on her phone...

4 scratches and a small hole in the right side plastic...that's it on my end.

And I just got this awesome steel front bumper. Worried about what damage I'd do to someone's rear if I can't stop cause of snow and ice this winter.

Looks like a brand new after market bumper is in your future. I was the recipient of a very hard rear end collision that sent me into the car in front. The dude that smashed me was cited and I now have front AND rear after market steel bumpers. Gotta love the Jeep.

When idiots do that to me (tailgate and stop very close behind me) I wait 2-3 seconds before I accelerate VERY SLOWLY away from stops AND leave 4 times the proper following distance between me and the guy in front of me. This FORCES them to go around me. Tailgaters are not tolerated for this very reason. They usually go ripping around me after ONE application.

Well I'm glad everyone's okay. Uh, I presume you're both okay. 10 mph collison is something to be lucky to walk away from.... just ask the Sentra.

That's great
Another option is spreading the washer fluid for about 30 seconds... They usually stop tailgating

I've actually thought about setting up sprayers on my AEV 3rd brake light mount that sprays a skunkish (stink bait) solution all over their car. BUT, in the grand scheme of things (legally speaking) in this day in age, that is all it would take to instigate a road rage incident where somebody would end up getting shot and they WILL DIE!!! I don't need that drama in my life! So, I stick to the 100% safe, proper, legal, innocent way that will stand up in ANY COURT of law as not trying to provoke anyone, method of just slowing WAY, WAY down. I have spoke with many attorneys, LEO's, Judges, etc, and they all say, "if you spray anything on a tail-gator and they catch it on their dash cam, SOME jurors (the idiot ones) would take it as "YOU ARE the instigator" Not the tail gator! Figure that. "What's right is wrong and what wrong is right!"

I have been doing this for years. Chances are the tailgaters windshield wipers are crap and will smear when they use them. Not that they will care.

Hmm.... There is that rear wiper cleaner tank back there that never gets used since the hard top was sold.... Hey don't give me any ideas!!

I also use the front windshield over spray method. Had one guy back off til he got a chance to pass then returned the spray lol.

We had the opposite happen this week. My kid was driving our Jeep and was following a buddy...too close.... He stopped for a yellow light and my kid thought he was going to go through...nope. $7k damage (nissan Versa, so close) . Scuffed the powdercoat on our front bumper.

Couple of years ago, I was rearended in freeway traffic at about 15 mph by a Chevy Tahoe. I already had an aftermarket bumper. Pushed it forward a bit, scuffed the powdercoat, and destroyed my muffler. No other damage. I was pulling my bumper off the next day anyway to add some LED's (Ace pro series) and had already taken the spare off. Had I had that on I am sure there would have been more damage, but got lucky. His Tahoe was totaled.

Glad no one was hurt, now pick out your new bumper.

BTW...my rear sprayer is broken and shoots a stream of water directly out the back. I often squirt my kids if they follow too close, but hadn't thought about it as a real world tailgate deterrent.

It's hard to see if there's even any damage to the bumper. Dark picture. If it's pushed forward, the brackets are flimsy and can be easily DIY bent in place. The brass fittings that screw into the bumper often pull out. Unscrew the bolts, screw them back in the bumper, put the bolts in. If there's a push-in on the bumper, put some screws into the molding holes, put in an air fitting on one and use a compressor to pressurize it. You could use a heat gun gingerly around the push in. It'll pop right out.

Oh you just know how to take the fun out of getting a new bumper. 😣
