My Top

Hi all! Newbie here. Both my kids have wranglers and love them. I'm a convertible gal. Have had sebrings and now a mustang convertible. I live in FL and looking for a vehicle that will allow the convertible top and yet be able to hold storage without having to take the top down in pouring rain (very common in FL!). So I am shopping for a wrangler for myself - not sure if 2 or 4 doors. But the convertible top is a must! Went to a dealership, looked at the new power top for 2019 and it just doesn't feel like a convertible. I am hearing good things on this mytop here! First, the price of it is fine (same as the power one on 2019). I'm fine with convertible top noise. Familiar with wranglers as daughter has 2015 2 door soft, son has 2017 4 door hard top.

My question, if I go with the 2 door and with my top, it sounds like there is a bit of hassle with the velcro. If the top is up, is it still an issue to put item in the jeep? I will need to put dog crate in back when traveling with dogs that I do frequently.

2nd question, on a 4 door mytop, is there also the velcro part that gets in the way?

Looking at some 2017 and 2018 jeeps, haven't bought yet but will soon! Love my mustang, but I have conceded that I truly need storage space access even when pouring!

Not a 4 wheeler, will have regular street tires maybe. But love to drive on beach here in Daytona. My mustang does great so I suspect these street tires will as well.

Love to hear comments! Thanks so much!!!

I just got off the phone with Anja at Mytop. She said the 4 door had been redesigned, true. And sadly she is not aware of anyone in central FL who has it installed. I am 100% ready to buy the used 2017 or 2018 4 door JK. Test drove, have the cash ready. But I really want to see this top before I trade in my car and put out this 40k for car and top. With my current mustang convertible, I can get items in my back with the top down, just not good in the rain! I plan to get a 4 door jeep and will keep seats folded down all the time, so I can use the back doors. My son has a 2017 JK, and we have measured the area and know it will work. Just need to see this top to ensure I will be happy with it. Will need to open the back fully open door and window area quite often to move in large items.

Anja said they will likely come to Daytona in the Spring 2019. Does anyone out there who lives in FL have this installed? I would love to see it if possible!

Says lay flat design. Look at video and it sits higher than the tire. I would rather take the two minutes to put it up myself.

I dig it, but honestly I would prefer to have the MOPAR premium soft top knowing that the motor in it won't fail, and that when I latch it down, it's latched down. I think with that mytop you still have to get out and secure it all the way around. At least that's what my interpretation of the cut away shots they left out in the video. It's what I don't see in the video that I don't know about. But great concept!

Hi, what MOPAR top are you talking about? I'm new and shopping for the jeep now. If you have a soft top now, how long does it take to get it off and on? Living in FL with the sudden downpours, I really treasure the quick top on my current car - mustang convertible. I'm hoping to find something I can quickly pull over and get it up in a minute. You see the wall of rain coming to you and you must act fast or have an in car swimming pool! Thank you all for you information!!!

Welcome to the forum. Have you driven both of your kids Jeeps? I have not driven a 4 door but absolutely love my 2 door. This thing turns on a dime and gives you 9 cents change. Parking in a lot is a breeze. The rear seat comes out fairly easily and leaves plenty of room for hauling "stuff".

Not really addressing your top question but offering a perspective to deciding between the 2 and 4 door versions. The rain issue will happen once and a while whereas driving your new Jeep will be every day.......Just a thought.

Did you get the top or see it at Daytona?

My wife struggles with the soft top, she tried it on a friend's Jeep. Bad enough that we didn't even install hers and will probably sell it. I stumbled across the MyTop last night but I have similar concerns about the windows.

I see they'll be in Daytona again this year, so we're going to check it out.

$3,600 for a JKU!

Here I am thinking $1,800 for a Mopar Premium top is outrageous!!

Having owned YJs for 30 years and dealing with putting those tops up and down, these new Jeep tops are a breeze to put up. Seriously, just practice doing it and you will get efficient with the process.

I cannot imagine wheeling and leaning into a tree or ledge that rips this top or bends the hardware.

The problem is that she has some joint and strength issues from a rollover convertible wreck she was in as a teenager. To give you some idea, she can barely lift one of the hard top front panels.

Plus there's the Florida surprise-storm thing like the OP mentions. Having had a Viper RT/10, I can tell you that's a real hassle sometimes. Waiting around under a random gas station awning is not fun.

But I like this top even less, the more I look at it.

This is an old post, but I would recommend the hard top with the Bestop Sunrider for Hardtop in lieu of the freedom panels.

This way she has quick, easy and secure storage in the back and she can flip the top in a matter of seconds at a traffic light.

Have you considered a Bestop Sunrider for her? It replaces the Freedom panels and looks pretty easy to use.

Edit: duplicate suggestion!

Edit -- I was thinking the Sunrider is the soft top where the front rolls back. Didn't realize there's a hard top option, I'll have to check that out, thanks.

Especially for that price. It ought to clean my windows and windshield for that price.
