Just finished getting NavTV interface and back-up camera put in. While in my favorite installers shop, we worked out a heated seat install. He put a kill switch in for back-up camera since he claimed the camera should not have power to it 100% of the time (is this true?). I will be using the camera for a "rear view mirror" sometimes since I have a soft top with tinted back and at night or in bad weather I can't see out the back, and I think he was afraid I would burn the camera out prematurely. Also wanted placement of the heated switch in view and not on the side of seat. I think it's a good compromise. Happy Birthday to me! Click image for larger version

I would have wired it to the reverse lights if the NAV-TV default wiring sends power to the camera all the time. I know it would not show it on the display all the time but there's no reason to have it powered on when it is not being used.

Was the backup camera the only reason you got the NAV-TV interface? There were much less expensive options.

Wanted navigation to work while in motion, and the ability to run rear camera any time on-demand. Got a good price when both installed ( heated seats) together. Also the spare tire mount is very tidy.

PS - the Rigid backup lights were already installed over a year ago
