New Engine in my future

Last week, I arrived home from work and while pulling in the garage I heard an unsettling knocking noise. Shut the motor off and checked the oil level, all is good. Knock sounded very internal motor. Not good.

Took the 2014 Jeep to the dealer yesterday and after hearing the noise the service writer says "yep sounds like a rod knocking'. Waiting on them to call back with confirmation.

2014 JKU with 31k miles. Faithfully used Mobil 1 with wix filters every 3-4k miles.

Let's see how big of fight this turns into. Hopefully it will be easy.

Unfortunately you gave them two possible reasons to deny your claim. Hopefully they don't. Keep us posted.

I don't think Mobile 1 is an approved motor oil. I hope it goes well for you, but the potential hassle you might have to deal with is why I will let the dealer do all of my service work until the warranty has expired. It helps that the 2016's come with your first 4 oil changes included already anyhow.

They don't worry about what oil you use. A 2014 with a rod gone will be a non issue. As long as you have the receipts for oil and filters.
It is more likely whether or not you have a good relationship with your dealer, but I don't see a problem here. At one point Mopar Syn was Mobile 1.

Huh? Is this true for all '16s?

I believe the free oil changes is a dealership thing, or a regional (advertising) area thing. I remember back when such was a SE regional promotion, but I am not sure if it is still offered.

Trust me I am not doubting your mechanical knowledge, but make sure its rodnock.
Worse when cold
Louder with load against engine
Quiter when it warms up, etc.

I had an AC compressor that went bad, it mimicked rod knock audibly very well. It did not give the same symptoms obviously and the sound wasn't quite as associated with RPM as it should have been. Nonetheless it made a similar noise.

New purchase gets you in the jeep wave program for two years. 2 free oil changes and tire rotation a year. Some other perks but doubt I'll renew when the freebie is over.

Worst case try rubitrux, they sold me a take out motor complete for cheap and shipped it to my mechanic for free. Good price, friendly people.
Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but options are always nice.
Good luck

Update- The problem was head related. Valve Rocker Arm was loose which caused damage to both the intake and exhaust cams. All was replaced under warranty with rental care, no questions asked. Got my Jeep back yesterday after 3 days.

Happy Camper!

That's good news and great service. Mine would have been in the dealer for 3 weeks, not 3 days.

I had a motor in a 2010 Jeep SRT8 disintegrate with 30k miles on it. A valve spring broke leaving the valve in the cylinder for the piston to then beat it into submission. Finally the valve got pulled into the cylinder completely and beat a hole in the piston.

I had no mods, no signs of abuse.

It tool 6 weeks to get it back. No loaner car. And it was never the same. I was out of town when it happened so I was limited as to what dealer to use.

But at least they covered it.

Jeep Wave = 2 free Oil/Filter, Regional Promotion = 2 free Oil/Filter, so in my 2016, I got four total. Trouble is trying to actually have time to sit at a dealer for an hour and a half to get it done.

I got 4 changes also, nothing said at dealership but I got mail that told me. It is just a lot less hassle and a lot quicker to do it myself.
