Hello everyone - I just bought my first Jeep (Wrangler Sport 2 door) and I love it but have some questions about covers. Ive browsed around here and did a few searches but with so much content didn't find exactly what I was looking for...

My question is this:

I have a 2011 with a hard top - no soft top - so it is the 3 piece hard top

I have taken off the front pieces but not the whole setup yet - is it possible to use the front 2 top pieces with some sort of soft top to cover the back?

If so/not what is a good soft cover setup? There are a lot of options - bikini bras, emergency covers, deck covers etc

I would like to have a nice summer setup for here in Colorado that is easy to use but provides good coverage in the event I take a road trip or there is a bad downpour or the Moab dust is out of control etc...

Of course in winter it's all about the hard top...

Bikini tops just cover the top. If you're looking for something like that, you can get a spyderweb shade that fits under your hardtop so you don't have to swap hardware. I'm also looking at buying a cage from safaristraps.com which can also fit under the stock top .
If you want a full soft top or bikini/brief top you're gonna have to install the top's hardware and remove the stock top completely. They don't work in conjunction with the stock tops.

If anyone else has a setup where they use their 2 hard front pieces with a full soft cover on the back please let me know...

the front two pieces over the driver and passenger can be installed without the back part of the top on . Is that your question?

regardless, if you wanted to, you can put those back on, just remember to screw them down.

or you want to do that plus a soft cover? not sure about that.

There is no soft top that is used at the same time as part of the hard top.

Anyone think this might be a little "flimsy" (flapping excessively etc) without the normal soft top hardware?

There is a new Trektop out called the Trektop NX. You can pre-order them now. Supposed to be shipping last month, now this month. Maybe next month.

Same concept as the Trektop you link, but with removable windows and a sunrider feature. Plus a few other goodies. Lots and lots of threads going on about the new Trektop NX and Supertop NX. Good info available on both at the Bestop website too.

Not trying to be anal - but this is all new to me and I don't want to make a mistake ($)

it's all cool comap. I am in the same boat. I have a hard top and want to make sure when I spend my money, it is spent in the best way possible. I have been scouring the options like crazy myself and I am happy to share what I have learned.

I went with a Supertop NX myself. I really liked the Trektop NX but I like that that Supertop NX stays on the Jeep. The Trektop NX gets removed from the Jeep, then you have to put it somewhere and don't have it with you if you get caught in the rain.

But.....

When the windows are all removed from the Trektop NX, you are basically left with a bikini top. And that's a nice way to ride around in the summer. you might never need to go any further that than that. I really like the fastback look of the Trektop NX too. If I end up selling my hardtop next winter, I will probably add a Trektop NX to swap back and forth with the Supertop NX.

I must be over-thinking this or something

I Need to keep my hard top because here in Colorado - a hard top in Winter (basically 1/2 the year) is ideal...

Beyond that - I just want something durable, easy to deal with that I can throw on for summer - something that fully covers the jeep (for times when - say - Im driving down the highway and need full coverage) but is easy to take off or "roll back" when I'm out on the trails or driving around on warm summer days...

Why doesnt the Trektop "stay on the Jeep"?

Mine came with just the hard top. I bought a soft top and hardware in perfect condition on ebay for about $400. I switch them out for the winter. I have a bikini too but only used it once and it rained like hell that day. LOL

As I understand it, the Supertop NX and Trextop NX are both top quality sailcloth fabric. As good if not better than the factory softtop material. So no worries about durability. Or at least nothing more durable available anywhere.

Both have a factory style windshield header rail, factory style door surrounds, and an extra bow over the doors to prevent water from puddling over your head. Factory top doesn't even have that. Both tops also offer the sunrider feature where the top flips back like a sunroof.

After that, the Supertop NX has the bows and inner frame that a factory soft top has. That stays attached to your jeep allowing you to roll back the whole top to be completely open after you unzip and remove the windows.

The Trektop NX does not have the bows attached to the jeep. It uses your roll cage as a frame. you have to lift off the whole thing to be completely open air in it. Think of it a a bikini top with removable windows. But with the sunrider feature and header rail, you aren't going to fold it up and put it in your cargo hold. It's either on or hanging in your garage.
