New Sound for 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport

Hello guys! Just got my first Wrangler. I don't have the premium sound package. The current speakers installed aren't the best for what I listen to so I'm in the market for an affordable solution (seeing I just bought this beautiful lady).

I listen to mostly Electronic music, so anything that provides clear highs and decent bass would work great...really though I'd take anything that's just an improvement of the hollow sounding stock speakers.

So far I've heard from the reading around I've done that stuffing the sound bar with pillow stuffing or something significantly helps those speakers, but I haven't came across any good recommendations for my year/model.

Thanks for your time! Let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Several people have posted that stuffing the sound bar on their 2015 has helped.

Polk DB651/6501s are popular replacements that won't break the bank, but I'm not sure if the tweeters will fit in the new sunken location.

You should also look at the Cheap Tweeter mod thread and ...there's another thread on adding a sub, but I can't remember the name.

Hey @RubiconSS or @Pressurized , what is that thread called?

I have the same model year and setup (base system) that you have. I recently replaced the four speakers with Kickers and polyfilled the cavities. It's a vast improvement. It's not incredible and you won't impress any audiophiles, but for $150, it's a worthy improvement IMO. I can now hear music with the top off.

Here's my post on another thread....

I just installed that exact sub under the passenger seat 2 weeks ago. I love it. Took about 2 hours and that included a couple work conference calls in between.

History: I have a 2015 JKU sport. Base 130 audio system with BT and Sat. The base system is HORRIBLE. The first time I turned it up, it crackled, vibrated, and no bass to be heard. Even my 8 year old daughter gave me the stink eye when I turned up her favorite Ariana Grande song! Haha!

Local installer wanted over $800 for 4 new speakers and an amp...yeah not in the budget.

I bought 8 new replacement speaker, 4 kicker 77kick25s 3.5"s. Plug and play...4 Polk db651s for the 6.5, with the free Crutchfield harness, plug and play and the Kendwood sub.....grand total $378.

Soooo happy. It sounds crisp and clear and the bass is awesome. Not crazy overpowering, but enough to make me and my 8 yo daughter smile as we listen to Ariana! Well worth the money. And an added bonus as my wife now enjoys a free butt and back massage when we turn it up! Win/win/win situation!

These should really be a Sticky or a sub forum section.

Pressurized and RubiconSS seem to be the trail blazers for improving the sound of the premium or stock systems. I would also like to thank them and everyone else. It has really helped me improve my stock system!

Here are a few threads to check out.

Thanks for the replies guys! One more question, I've heard mixed things about needing marine rated speakers or not... any thoughts?

I'm in the same boat, 2015 JKU base sound system.. I've posted about it before but I still haven't decided which speakers to use that will sound good with the stock 130 head unit to keep Uconnect and steering wheel controls easily.

I had Polk speakers in my 97TJ. They still worked fine when I traded it in. I don't see the need for Marine rated speakers as long as you aren't flooding your jeep constantly. JMO

I went with the Kicker upgrades with the mopar factory connectors already included. Much better than stock. You should be able to do all of them for around $300.00. I did go with the Infinity Reference 1031t Tweeters in the Dash. I haven't decided on the 2.5's on the sound bar. I may try the Kick 25's for that.

For the most part, our mods have been geared towards systems with the factory sub since the Infinity's we use don't have a necessarily strong bass output, they excel at mid and high end. I think the Kickers might perform better in the base systems with better bass. I would also be inclined to try the JBL GTO628 or Polk db651.

https://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/db...r-1053145.html

As for tweeters, it was noted on the stock tweeter mod thread that a base 2015 tweeter was modded with positive results.

https://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/st...l#post18955937

I hope that helps!

^^ This. Replace your stock 6.5" speakers with 77Kick10s. Direct plug and play. Use some poly fill in the speaker enclosures but don't go crazy. I listen to EDM 90% of the time and it's a huge improvement. Very happy for the $150 investment.

Ok so I'll have to save a bit for the kicks10s (aka next paycheck ). I went ahead and did the polyfill mod. 6 bucks and such an easy mod, makes the bass so much better on the soundbar!

I made a simple album for peeps interested in doing it (despite the fact there are probably plenty of how-to's out there better): http://imgur.com/a/9p2Lj

Thanks again for the feedback guys!

Here is my DIY on how to install the kickers in the dash. Sound bar is pretty straight forward and since you did polyfill should be easy for you.

https://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/ki...s-1259209.html

I still need to get the 77Kick25 tweeters and a powered sub. Some good threads on 8" powered subs. Sound Ordnance from Crutchfield, Soundstream or Kenwood from Amazon.

Your DIY was great, thank you! I'm curious to hear your opinion on the 77Kick25s once you get them. I'm on the fence about them now. I don't seem to be missing any treble so I'm not sure if they would offer a worthy improvement or not.

What model Kickers and was the install pretty straight forward?

Thanks.

77Kick10 and see NLBeren's awesome DIY write up. The soundbar couldn't have been easier. The dash ones were a pain in the ass but not too bad if you have a tiny ratchet with a Philips driver.

I installed my 4 kickers last night without taking apart the entire dash. Passenger side took about half hour, and it was a pain especially not having the right tools!

Drivers side took all but 10 minutes. My wife held the dash back which helped a lot!

Sound bar took no time, only because my wife installed those!

The sound is quite different. I have the 130 and what an improvement over stock! I had previously poly filled the sound bar, but I think putting the kickers in there is definitely an improvement - I hear more noise coming from them than before.

Amazon. Someone also mentioned that Jegs had a special for $120 I believe.

I just received by Kicker 77kick10s from Jegs for that price. They were backordered, guess all of us jeepers were buying them. I put the Infinity 6032si in the soundbar a couple weeks ago. Im going to compare the two and see which I like better. Of course, Im going to get a sub to go along with the setup.

Let me know if you like the Inifinty or Kicker better! I have no clue which sub to add. I don't want to break the bank. Apparently some can be had for cheap.

You don't need to spend a lot for a powered sub. I've read through a ton of sound upgrade threads and a lot of people seem to like the Sound Ordnance from Crutchfield or Soundstream or Kenwood from Amazon.

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD 125-watt compact powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

So I just did the full audio upgrade, done by a professional given all the lights, dual batteries, and wiring I have on my Jeep.

I bought a 2015 JKU Sport with stock speakers, no sub and base deck. I knew I was going to gut it all anyway As mentioned in all the threads, the stock crap sounds like well, crap!

Here is what I did:
4 - KICKER 6.5" speakers + tweeters
1 - KICKER 8" Hideaway powered sub (part # 11HS8)
1 - KICKER KX400.4 amp
Used all KICKER wires, connectors, install kits etc.
Head unit - PIONEER AVH-x3600BHS

I originally installed all the speakers/amp/head unit and wanted to see how the sound was before I added the sub. As you can imagine, it was def. better than the stock setup but was mostly mids and highs and the sound wasn't "true". Also, during this install the radio connector module for the steering wheel controls did not work, so I had to have crutchfield send me a new one. Since the installer was having to fix this, I decided to add the sub since my baby was going under the knife again anyway. haha

The installer did a really clean job. He used dynamat around the dash speakers and in the sound bar. I do want to take out the sound bar speakers though and see if adding any polyfill is needed.
He mounted the amp under the passenger seat and the sub is mounted under the driver seat and is attached to the special JKU under-seat bracket (bought it for ~$35 on ebay) that is recommended on the forum. The bracket does look nice and worked well and I am thinking about adding another one for the amp.

If I did it all over again, I would swap the sub to the passenger side as it does vibrate the seat bottom. He installed the bass boost knob under the steering column, which gives it easy access, but my knee sometimes hits it getting in so I would recommend moving it to another location. Also, the mic that comes with the Pioneer was mounted on the left side of the dash in front of the tweeter. Not sure if there are better spots to mount it, but people say they can't really hear me when I'm on my phone. I think this is the fact that I am in a soft top Jeep more than the mic. I could be wrong.

Overall though, WOW what a difference! The sound is amazing, it is clear, clean and crisp and loud if I want it to be. I can hear perfectly with the windows down or top off. The sub is perfect, and if I crank up the bass boost, it bumps (which I don't really want. I'm not trying to win a contest). I am very happy with this setup and I even have room under the sub bracket for storage (space is always a premium for us).

Since this was a professional install, I didn't document the process (sorry guys). I am just giving everyone my experience with what I did. Let me know if you have any questions!

@campinfamily which kenwood sub? I was looking on amazon and ran across this one...

The reviews look good and the price is right. I had two 12s in my TJ and it was overkill. I am just looking for some bass with the stock speakers.

The 2015 has 8 speakers. 4 in the soundbar and 4 in the dash. I got the Kenwood KSC-SW11!
