New to forum and wranglers. Need advice on a 2016 4 door wrangler (long post)

Hey guys, well I am looking to do some offroading and looking to replace my current vehicle with a jeep. I am completely new to wranglers and offroading and feel like I want to make the jump. I have test drove a couple already and it is going to take some getting use to but I can see myself enjoying it. Was originally going to go with a 2 door, however after reading up on them a bit more they are not great at towing so I have decided to go with the 4 door. Mostly tow a small camper and a boat ever now and than.

I was on the fence between an auto and manual, and I feel like I need a manual, however they seem to be hard to find used or new in a price range that I am comfortable with.

Now to the particular vehicle I am looking at, it is about 3 hour round trip and before I potentially waste time/money to go look at it wanted some extra feed back on it.

It is about 97000km/60000miles, and from what I can tell from the pics it looks clean. I know 97000 km is high, but the car I got now I would have put equivalent km on it in the same amount of time.

I am being good and not jumping on the first thing I see and am being patient with finding something good. However be nice to get in to something for the summer, well just have fun all year round.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum

There are a lot of KM on that Jeep, and the 6 speed hasn't been the most reliable (search the forum for posts on issues with that transmission).

Depending on its in-service date, powertrain warranty is coming to an end very soon in terms of mileage. If that 6 speed is a dud, there could be a lengthy wait for parts (national backorder) and a lot of down time waiting if it is still covered...or a big out of pocket expense if it grenades post 100K. Have you considered hopping over to the mainland? Plenty of brand new JKUs in-stock, and you might be able to search one up with full warranty in the lower mainland. If you want one with some miles on it to save $$$$, do consider the auto trans, as it has been more bulletproof.

I would (and did) go with the stronger automatic. I like manuals, but in this application, I felt the auto was a better choice. The manual wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but it wouldn't be something I would go out of my way for.

Seems like a great price but I haven't been shopping, especially in Canada. I have a 2016 JKU Rubicon with 50k miles. 60k for a 4 year old vehicle seems average to me, not high mileage. I haven't had any real issues with my Jeep so far, just the usual stuff. Squeaky seat, dead battery (less than 3 years at the time). Sounds like I may have an issue with my heater module so I'll have to get that looked at. Covered under my lifetime Maxcare I'm sure...

^^ that one would have my interest- basically stock (no-one else's improper or cheap lift issues to solve...install your own after doing the research)

If it is a certified pre-owned purchased from a Jeep dealer, you may have some warranty should issues be present or arise. You'll possibly find more options you'll get to appreciate on a Sahara (or optioned Rubicon). You may find a brand new '18 JKU for another $7-8K if you like what is available from remaining inventory, and get preferable financing rates over used unless paying outright.

Really? Is this the same six speed on the 07 series onward?

Extreme Terrain has a write up on transmissions.

I was considering a manual, and when perusing the forum before buying, I came across several threads (at the time) detailing common issues. I know these won't affect every Jeep.

Yeah this stuff is always like side effects with prescription medicine. “Some“ people can always be expected to experience side effects tho most wont.

I like the Duncan's dodge jeep. It was the only one that had the connectivity group package plus heater seats (leather). I really like the Anvil color.
It's fun looking and there are so many options. A 13 can cost the same as a 16 or 17.
So just really depends what color you really want and options.

All the more reason to have some warranty left when buying a used vehicle. It gives you a chance to have issues sorted out before it will all be coming out of your own pocket.

A consideration for sure with my recent trade into a minty 2015 with a purchase of an extended warranty.

Well knowing my luck, that one was being test driven as I was driving into the dealership, and as I was test driving the other one it was sold. The one I test drove, it drove nice, but the undercarriage was just rusted right out. The other one at first glance looked nice and clean, they couldn't even to be bothered to wash the one I test drove before putting it up for sale, there was still mud all over it. and it hasn't even rained in the area in a while.

As they say thin Eye of the Beholder you really probably need to figure out what Cosmetics you like like color painted vendors hardtop leather not leather automatic 6-speed climate control...
One of the priorities we wanted a few years ago which took us almost 18 months to get the one we really wanted with side airbags and other goodies. I started with that (bags)and worked around it.
I found some awesome looking Jeeps that we're good price but they just didn't have them and I felt that was important for me to have the side airbags. Both of are have them.
