Thrilled to be a Jeep owner again! Bought a used 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X last year and for the most part I've enjoyed it. Some odd things have popped up tho and perhaps one of you can help since the car folks around here aren't sure what's the cause. A few times I've heard a sound like the seat belt chime going off, but I'm buckled up! No lights on the dash, nothing else going on. I asked a car repair fellow who thought the car thinks it's tipping (I've just finished going around a curve when it happens but going straight a while) but doesn't seem the case. Was told to just write it off as a glitch.
I was also having intermittent episodes of the car not wanting to start, once or twice soon after I bought it last August, then more frequently this summer. I was told and was also concerned about the starter or solenoid but had it checked out and all is well. Was told it too could be a computer glitch-all the lights come on, it takes a try or two, but then it would go.

Another weirdness. I got a discounted oil change for my first time after purchasing the car. Was driving soon after and a notice came up that an oil change was due. I went back thinking they didn't do it or didn't tighten up things and the oil drained out. The service rep recognized it as a, yep, computer glitch. She somehow reset the system by stepping on the gas, clapping her hands a few times, singing a few bars of a musical, something, I don't know and it was fine. Went off once more at another time; I looked online and reset it. Never has come back on again. I'm thinking that the identification of a song on the radio needs to be reset too-still says "We Found Love" by Rihanna-booo!

Wow! I'm full of questions. Just one more-is the paint that sensitive on this vehicle? One slight touch and scrrratch! I have bumped the edges when taking the hard top off (I try to be careful, but my name IS Grace!ha!) I expect at some point to get touchup paint but darn. I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty which had a selling point of some special chip-free paint but within the last year the hood has started peeling badly and now makes the car look ragged. Maybe it's just us..!

Thank you for taking the time to read this novella and answer if possible!
Grace Y.

Grace, Welcome Aboard!
The oil change message is indeed reset by turning the ignition to Run and stepping on and releasing the gas pedal 3 times within 10 seconds.

Some of the earlier JKs had a recall for the fuse lock aka Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). All power for your Jeep runs thru this. It's the black box next to the air cleaner. A check with a dealer in your area would determine if your Jeep was covered. And sometimes the harnesses on the bottom of the TIPM don't make a good connection.

Thank you so much for the tips! I will definitely get the TIPM checked out soon. Meanwhile, after my next oil change (due now!) I will reset the message. So far I haven't seen it again and as a result I don't wait on it to tell me to get something done! I could be in serious trouble otherwise.

turtlewax makes a scratch repair wax thats really nice, it may help out on the tub where your top dinged it. The other stuff (starting included) definitely sound computer related let us know after you get that checked out.. very odd indeed

The jeep's computer takes into account your driving habits, miles traveled, and some other factors, and the change oil message will appear again when the computer thinks it is time for an oil change. On mine, it goes off about every 5000 miles or so, sometimes less if I've been off-roading a lot. Don't let it go over 6000 miles, which is the recommended mileage.

Go to jeep.com and download the owners manual if it didn't come with one. If it did come with one, start reading.
