Offset winch vs centered

From what I've seen on all the winch threads it seems to be preference. I have the HR front bumper and MOPAR winch mount (2014). I was planning on getting the Warn 9.5cti, which seems to what MOPAR designed their bumper and mount around. Well I don't have that kind of money nor will I use it enough to justify it.

So my question is what makes a winch compatible with an offset mount? Is it the size of the winch? The way it bolts to the mount? What am I looking for?

I have narrowed my list to Smittybuilt X20 Gen 2 and the Quadratec stealth winches.

Thanks

Bolt patterns for winches are mostly the same, the offset is the control pack location. I believe with that bumper you will need a winch that can have or has the control pack mounted on the center of the winch drum like the smittybilt x20

I ordered the Rock Hard winch mount. Its drilled for both offset or center mount.
The X20 would be mounted center and the Qtec would be offset but can be center mounted.

I have the old style winch mount that, from what I read, is set up for offset only. I believe they changed them mid 2015. I have not even opened the box, it's been sitting in my garage for the past year or so. I don't have a problem with it being offset, even with my level of OCD.

I'm trying to see what winches I can purchase and install without modification. In a past thread most seem to go with the Warn 9.5cti but some go with the Zeon series and make modifications. I understand the Zeon series is bigger so does that mean as long as I buy a winch that has the same dimensions as the 9.5cti I will be ok?

Ok so any center mounted control pack that has the same general dimensions as the Warn 9.5cti?

So I inquired at two separate, reputable, companies about what winches will work with my setup ( 2014 10A bumper with the MOPAR old offset winch mount ). I was told the only offset winch's on the market that will work, without cutting and modifications, are the Warn 9.5cti and the Warn Power plant.

Does anyone have this setup but using another winch or know of other winches that will work with the offset?

Call the guys at Maximus-3 and talk to them. They keep a list of which winches are considered offset or centered. You could also sell your Mopar plate and buy one of their center mount plates and run more affordable winch like a Superwinch Tigershark 9.5SR.

Thanks Mike. I called them and they said that to the best of their knowledge, any small body winch should work with the offset.

Sleddogn, haha I'm not quite ready to give up on the MOPAR winch plate. But if I order the winch and it doesn't work without lots of cutting or fabrication I will sell the winch plate and go with another one that will work hassle free.

Then, don't worry about it. Move on to what you want.

I assume you have an 82214786AB winch mount? If that is the case Mopar makes two fairlead adapter plates.

82214787 is a center mount adapter plate.

82214851 is an offset adapter plate.

This is a little off. If you pull the front plate that says Rubicon and there is a longer than standard fairlead opening there is no trimming. Older bumpers were OC only and the only trimming is with a 3/4 hole saw or cutting wheel and even that is covered by the trim plate completely. Simple and straight forward. Most 2016s we found do not have to trim, besides the clipping off the vacuum pump bracket and rebolting it with another bracket (for large winches like a Zeon, smaller ones it is not needed). Very straight forward and I have a lot of first time installers doing this no problem in their driveways. Our customers have put about every winch imaginable in this bumper, most of ours are putting in a Zeon. Centered vs OC is easy, winches like the Zeon and Smitty X2O are centered; a VR, cti, badlands, and a lot of others are offcentered. Just look at where the fairlead drum is centered. Some smaller OC winches can be mounted centered as well. Options are basically endless for this bumper. If the box is to the left, it is almost always considered a off-centered.

EDIT: Also, with that MOPAR mount centered and OC can be mounted with it. The difference is the front trim plate, that is it. I have people with cti's and people with Zeons using it. Same mount, the trim plate just determines where the rope comes out (C vs OC)

Check my build thread. I have the newer bumper, but the older mount, so it should be all you need. I love my stealth!

Bare with me as I'm not tech savvy enough to do multiple quotes.

Grizz........ I looked and I have the MOPAR winch plate #82213840. It's the original Plate from AEV. Do you know if those adapter plates work with the older plates? Thanks for giving me that link.

RubiTruxBen....... So simce I have the old mount and the older style bumper it sounds like I still have a lot of options.

BeeLDub...... I took a look at your build and I think that the Stealth winch would work perfectly and since I have the older style bumper I shouldn't need to do any kind of modification.

Thanks for all the great information so far.

82213840 supersedes to 82214786AB. All I can say about these adapters being backward compatible to your 82213840 is maybe. It could be a simple as different holes being drilled to work with newer bumpers.

I have been researching along the same lines as you because the 2016 JKU75 I have uses the same bumper, only it is bronze color.

I thought the newer, 2015 1/2+, and the newer winch plate will accept any centered winch. Since I have the pre 2015 bumper It was my understanding I needed an offset winch in order to to make the MOPAR bumper and plate combo work. That being said after looking at BeeLDub's build it looks like I could use the Quadratec Stealth winch in my application.

Mopar winch mount please help

What is the difference between the Mopar 82213840 or it's predecessor 82214786? I want to make sure I buy the right 1. I plan to install on a 10x bumper but I'm not sure the year of the bumper. The winch will be x2o and I want a center mount. Thanks for the help

So I believe I have a 10x bumper with the oc cut so I will need to cut this slot on the bumper I believe. So if I get the Mopar winch plate will I just need to cut the trim plate to match the bumper? Then cover that with the centering plate?

I can't send pics in messages and only can do one at a time on the post. You shouldn't need to cut anything on the 10A/Hard Rock bumper for a center mount.
