Opinion on price - 2017 jk wrangler sport unlimited

I have an out of town friend selling a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sport unlimited, with 15k miles.

Motor replaced 8 months ago BY Jeep as water got in the intake, from a deep puddle. Not sure how it happened but when I go check it out I'll check the frame to make sure theres no signs of problems. He promises it was a puddle in FL Ocala forest. I've seen his trailers and he really does baby it, but never know.

Here are the upgrades:

Tow package

EXTERIOR UPGRADES
20x9.5 black rhino wheels
35x10.5 Toyo Mud terrain tires
4 inch pro comp suspension lift with nitro shocks steering stabilizer and upgraded sway bar
Metal stubby front bumper with led cube lights
Metal rear bumper with oversized tire carrier and back up led cube lights
Metal fender flares
Angry eye front grill
Dv8 inner fenders
50 inch color changing light bar With brackets
Color changing Rock lights(under-glows) with bluetooth controls

Interior Upgrades and sound system
Full factory upgraded alpine sound system with stock subwoofer
7 inch pioneer head unit with Bluetooth Sirius Xm radio and App-radio mode
Custom rear subwoofer box to match front grill of Jeep with custom lighting
2 300 watt 12 inch legion audio shadow subwoofers
420 w legion audio amplifier
White kicker dual marine boat tower speakers
400 w marine wet sound amp
300 w legion audio bullet tweeters

He's willing to sell it to me for 34k, without the pioneer head unit and the subwoofers.

What do you think?

I paid 37 for a new 18 JKUR, and could have had a new loaded 18 sport for 30.5k.

The one you’re showing is at least 6k overpriced (being generous) with low end junk lift and accessories. I don’t know anything about the stereo except that those speakers are hideous looking.

Run away from that “deal”.

Pull up CarGurus for your area and see what you can get for that price. Low mileage 2017 JKU Sports in central Florida are listed in the 25k-28k range and JKURs are 30k-31k. It's a good reference when shopping around. Personally, I steer away from previously damaged vehicles.

Your Friend is way over pricing his rig . I have a total stock 2017 Rubicon with 14,000 miles and would really think about selling at that price .

For that model around 26-28k before fees.

I would say 27k, give or take a little in either direction. Your friend thinks the mods add value when they don't at all. He will never get the money back unless he returns the Jeep to stock and sells them individually.

as noted.. keep looking. The replaced engine would be enough to pass on it for me unless the price was in the low 20k range and even then I would wonder what else might be wrong with it.

I'd pass just based on the engine replacement alone unless I could get it dirt cheap..

For the price he wants to sell it for you can get a brand spanking new JK and build it up yourself.... I am sure there are still some floating around on dealer lots..

I also assume 2018 JL's left on lots are going to be getting price dumps...

So here's my take on it. It's built as a mall crawler. If that's what you're looking for, price out the things you really would want, then look at KBB for what the Jeep by itself is worth. I'm always looking at local Rubicons online and there are tons of 18 JKU Rubicons with 10k miles for low $30's. But I am heavily focused on offroad usefulness and could care less about it looking cool (I just want to get over that rock).

If you want to help your friend out, suggest he start parting out the "upgrades" and return it to stock. He'll find a lot more buyers for a fully stock Jeep. Lots of 16 year old girls around where daddy's buying her first car.

What he has done to it isn't really upgrades. He has customized it to fit his idea of what his Jeep should be, but most of that really isn't "upgrades".
He will likely find that all that money he spent on customizing his Jeep is not coming back as unless he finds someone who actually values those things as much as he did and is dumb enough to pay near retail for them.
Things like 20" rims with 35's, likely without re-gearing to compensate for the larger tires, are not what most of us would call "upgrades. Also, putting an economy 4" lift is a bad idea even if you are selling the Jeep.
The stereo stuff, sure if you are into that. But 50 cents on the dollar is all I would allow for that if even that. Often stuff like that has to be undone by the new owner, so it is actually a negative.

By the way, the tow package is only a hitch and wiring. Does it have the Max Tow package, which would include 3.73 gears? That would actually be better, but still not enough gear for 35's on 20's.

Most likely with a replaced engine it will have a salvage title and even if not likely warranty will be affected. I agree low 20's would be reasonable and even then I would pass. most of the stuff is stuff that is added on would actually decrease value vs add value but hey if you love it it is your money and nobody can tell you how to spend it.

And only worth it if that's what you want and want to pay him for it. Not only that, you need to replace the HU and the subs as he's taking those out.

Mods are not worth full value in the used market. 50% at most, more likely 10% to no value.

His mods for the Jeep itself are all low end, mall crawler stuff that he liked. Unless you have exactly the same tastes and are willing to pay him full value, this Jeep is way over priced.

I wouldn’t offer anything. I would run away from that as I stated earlier.

If you really want a Wrangler, there are a ton out there both stock and modified with quality parts. It all depends on what you’re looking for. Educate yourself on these vehicles, figure out what it is that YOU want and look for a suitable vehicle to build or one that is modified in line with your vehicle goals.
