Orange peel in paint?

We got our Jeep in November and of course I didn't see this in the fluorescent lights of their shop when we picked it up (it was snowing that day). I keep meaning to post and ask if this is "normal". Or if it is something I should actually go back to the dealer and have them look at. I've read a number of posts about poor paint quality, so I suspect that the answer is going to be that's just the way it is, but I thought I'd ask before I decide to just live with it and decide it's a "feature".

It's always more noticeable on the darker colors, but all production line paint processes cause this. Believe it or not, BMW is one of the worst for orange peel.

There is honestly not much that you can do about it. They can wet sand it down for you, but if not done right it can make matters MUCH worse.

I'm not sure I actually see what you're complaining about.

I thought I did, but the power lines look exactly the same in the windshield as they do in the hood.

I don't think the windshield has orange peel.

Welcome to modern paint. Paint coats are getting thinner and the modern enviro friendly paints that are required don't help. My 350Z I had before the Jeep was just as bad. Talked to people on various detailing forums about it and quickly learned about the causes and that is basically just how it is now for modern mass production vehicles in a lot of cases.

Edit: Hard to tell from the pics, but if you think it's overly excessive it wouldn't hurt to ask about it. However, at best they'll offer to repaint it or something and you don't want that. It won't be factory paint and may cause problems down the road. They're not going to take the vehicle back just because of some extra orange peel in the paint.

Thanks. I suspected as much but wanted some verification before I just decided to ignore it.

I work for a tier 1 supplier for the auto industry. The company paints auto parts, we get in trouble when there is not enough orange peel! It's nuts but paint quality is crap and only getting worse with water based paint.

It's when the paint has a texture like an orange peel instead of being smooth.

Definitely normal for a Wrangler, and yes, paint quality has never been great.
Hey, at least you don't have a visibly different spot of paint on your fender like mine does. It looks like it was reshot after the initial paint was applied. There's no filler under it or anything sketchy looking, so there's not much I can do really. You don;t see it in low light, but in direct sunlight, it's like a sore thumb.

I like the orange peel look on mine. Makes Dozer even better!
