Other than wiring harness, anything else needed when putting hard top on JKU w soft t

Hello,

I am picking up my 2018 JKU this week. I ordered it with the premium soft top only because I have a hard top from my old 2015 JKU that was totaled in a crash (when I had the soft top on). I know that I need the hardtop wiring kit so that the rear wiper, wiper fluid and defroster will work. Do I need any other hardware to install the hardtop? Thanks

You need the nut plates that slide under the lip on the tub. Otherwise the mounting bolts don't have anything to screw into.

Ok thanks. Do I you happen to know OEM part number? Thanks!

And should the holes for the nut plates already be drilled when I get the vehicle? I just want to have everything ready when I take delivery so I can make the switch.

Just to mention that there is more than one of those kits. Which you need, depends on the options you might have from the factory. For example, if you have heated mirrors, you already have the defroster switch (even with a soft top).

Thanks. I knew that and ordered the correct kit, but thanks for looking out. Any idea if the holes are already drilled for for those clips I need?

They should be. I bought my JKR with a soft top only and it had the holes.

Installation of the harness requires (at least) these tools:
Wire coat hanger to fish through the firewall grommet
Long T-20 screwdriver for shroud under steering wheel
Automotive panel spudgers to pop the top of the dash off
Soldering kit to solder connections at the PCM/ECU

Total job (first time around) was ~4 hours. Second time around for me took about 90 minutes.

Best

Aside from the hardware, don't forget that you may also need a dealer flash. For some reason the rear wiper may stop in random positions without the flash.

As far as I know, the holes are already there. You just need to slide the nut plates in under the lip at the cutout and then slide them forward until they line up with the holes.

I have no idea what the part number is, but it shouldn't be hard to find out.

Alternately, there are aftermarket solutions if you don't want to go to the dealer. They are about 5 bucks apiece at quadratec, and you need 6 of them.

If you want to go on the cheap, you can just use appropriately sized nuts with a flat washer under there, but it's a little more of a hassle because they aren't retained and will fall out when you unscrew them.
