Yeah, I've got one of those dents too, really bothered me at first. I found a dent pulling kit at Harbor Freight for about $15 that made it look much better but not 100%. Told myself I'd work on it some more but never did. $200 seems steep.
Depending on the depth/sharpness of the dent, that's not an easy panel to push. And prices will vary depending on what area of the country you are in. Cowl covers are worth considering to prevent the possibility of it happening again after you've paid to have it fixed.
Thanks all. I don't like or want the cowl covers. I'm either gonna live with the dent, or pay to get it fixed. At 135 thousand miles this rig looks really good, so the dent is absolutely killing me. 200 bucks seems high though.
It's actually pretty hard to get a tool into that area so a lot of it will need to be glue pulled. $200 is at the top of the range, but $125 to $200 is the range you are in to fix most JK mirror dents.
What's this glue-pulled process? I've never seen that...
I have some divots on my hood from being hand washed.. apparently they leaned over the hood using their elbows for support -- leaving several divots on the hood.
It appears it would be difficult getting a tool under there, in between the bracing to work out the divots.
I think I spent about $100 to have one of those paintless dent remover guys take mine out. If you know where to look you can see something like of blemish but overall very happy with the results.
I used him to repair my passenger side door that had a dimple right in the middle and a nice bend at the bottom when I dropped the door trying to reinstall it one time. He worked on it for a while until it was perfect. First he tried pushing it out from behind but couldn't get right behind the dimple. He then used the glue pull technique until it looked perfect.
My recollection from our conversation was his starting point for pricing is $100 per panel, so I'd think fixing your cowl would be $100 job.
Anyone have pics of this dent, since it seems to be common. I've got a dent on mine on the driver side but was never sure what it was from. I'm not near the jeep now so I can't remember if it is within reach of the mirror or not.
I just found some images on here. Now I'm curious because I think mine showed up before I ever took the doors off. I need to see if it lines up though.....
This is the $15 Harbor Freight kit I mentioned in an earlier post on this thread. It worked well but not 100%... I just need to take time to work on it some more.
OK so do people get these dents when taking their doors off? Like you've just disconnected the door stops and then the wind blows it? Or does the OEM strap just fail at some point? Of course I've never actually let it go in a gust of wind. I'm usually pretty careful as I've had bad experiences in other vehicles before.
I was super careful the 10 years Ive had this Jeep. I've take the doors off a million times over the summers I've had it. A gust of wind ripped the door out of my hand, broke the door strap causing the door to slam against the cowling.
When I first got my 2014, my wife asked me why my Jeep didn’t have the dimples. Every other Jeep she noticed had them.
