Pioneer AVIC-7100NEX NAV/Stereo unit

Just put one of these great NAV/Stereo units in my JKUS. These just came out March of this year with all new updates and a slick new format. Check them out on youtube.
I also just put in a subwoofer that this S model did not come with.
Although the 2015's now have the subwoofer in a new location under the storage compartment in back, I opted to buy an OEM 2014 subwoofer enclosure from a member here and install it instead. I will be selling the non-woofer panels for those who may want to remove the sub enclosure on earlier Wranglers to gain storage space in the back.
Anyway....this is a great aftermarket NAV/Stereo unit to add to your jeep.

Looks cool. I found this video. Not only did I learn more about this system I was also able practice my Spanish.

http://youtu.be/dmRQENroz3Q

Seriously though. How well does it work in terms of Bluetooth streaming and navigation?

I have a 130 and want to upgrade at some point.

I got last year's model, so it doesn't stream. But I did want to say that the navigation works great. Maps looks SO much better on the dash screen, and you can zoom in and out, based in your preference.

It works very well...smooth and very intuitive. I had the privious model and loved it. This updated model is just that much nicer. Love the voice so much better than any other.

@ JeepJinx,
How accurate is your navigation? I have this unit as well and navigation is off by about 500 ft at least.
My address number is 149 an it thinks I am at 177, which is a block down.
I called tech support and they just sent a new one, which I installed last night. Same issue.
I am thinking that the maps they are using are just crap. If I pull the actual gps info from settings its more or less in line with my phone. Which knows what address I actually am at.
On the second unit, no luck with steering wheel controls. Guess I will be calling Crutchfield.

For what it's worth, I am using the NEX with CarPlay for iPhone. It may help people who read these threads later if we all mention iPhone vs. Android in our comments.

I have the 7000NEX and haven't experienced any issues with the NAV being off.

Price was probably point number 1. I got ALL the parts to finish my set up (amp, sub, head unit, everything) for about $100 more than the raxiom head unit alone would have cost me.

Second point, never heard of raxiom as a car stereo provider. Pioneer is a brand we've known and used in our vehicles for years. Never had any issues with their stuff. Usually traded in the vehicle before anything happened to the stereo.

Third would be CarPlay. I am an  fangirl. Yes, I said it, out loud. I love my iPhone and my iPad and my MacBook. If I can get my head unit to speak , too, that's the option I am going to choose.

I think that's all of them. If I think of any others, I'll let you know.

Does the Android have a mirror function? I don't know about Android's version of CarPlay, but the AppRadio mode on Mike's had an option to mirror the iPhone screen to the head unit. Maybe if the Android CarPlay doesn't work, AppRadio would work for what you're looking to do?

Well, hopefully someone with an Android will know what I'm referring to and they can tell you.

Android phones support mirror cast, which the 7100 unit supports. I am not sure, but I think you need an adapter from HDMI for mirror cast.
While these things are possible, I find the need for cables running all over place ruins it for me.
I find the android auto interface to be more attractive than carplay. And from my experience, on this unit, android auto does work better.
As you know, google maps are superior as is their navigation. At the moment, even with a jailbreak, you can only use apple maps with car play.
Who knows...there is talk about Apple buying here maps.
One thing to keep in mind.
This is true of both Apple and Android.
There are almost ZERO apps which support this functionality. Currently the iphone has a better offering in terms of Apps.
I know this because i just switched from android to an iphone since my samsung s5 made me so angry.
Oh..another point if anyone is swapping from iphone to android or vice versa.
I wired my built in USB to the head unit so I would have the 1.6 Amp charging + Android auto right there in the console where i keep my phone.
Android and Apple use DIFFERENT USB ports. Therefore, you will need to pull the unit again and swap ports.

The whole ''which USB?" thing is annoying; I've got an 8100, and ended up wiring in jacks for both USB ports just in case. It's also worth noting that firmware upgrades use a specific USB port also (I think it's USB 1), so it's worth keeping both accessible.

Thanks Starbrite. I am an  fan too. Love my iPhone 6+. I use it to connect directly to my hearing aids and love it. I tend to stream music directly to my hearing aids when on drives so the sound is far superior to ANY setup other have in the jeep (to me) as I have the clearest sound possible. I want to use  CarPlay but need to make sure I still have access to my hearing aid controls when connected. I know this is the few vs the many in this situation. So far I have not been able to check this out. Went to a bestbuy last night to try and they did not have anything set up. Annoying. I want to go the pioneer and CarPlay route but if I lose my accessibility or ability to stream to hearing aids when using CarPlay then I will most likely go the raxiom route.

I wish we still lived in Lake Worth. I would have been happy to let you test it out on my NEX.

There were two car audio places up around 45th Street that had better demo units on display. There was also a Sound Advice still left down in Boca, and they actually had the Pioneer 8500 on display for demo. Maybe try a Google search and see if any of those shops are still open and have a unit available for demo? You could even call them and ask if they have one before you drive all the way up/down there. Sorry I can't remember the names of the two places around 45th. We went there one time, back in early 2013 and I just can't think of who they were. I can picture the stores in my mind, but no signage comes with it...

In this video they talk about both Apple car play and Android auto.
These guys are a little anoying but they do get to the point after a bit. They strart talking about these two points about half way through.

Pablo...Mine is right on the money when it comes to where it says you are in real time.

jadmt...you can run your Go Pro on this. You can also run a laptop...ipod...direct Android connect for music and other usb connected units.
There is also a hack to view DVD's as you drive around.

I just got back from a short trip and I really did like the way it interacts with you.
The only thing it does that I dont like is use the word "recalculating". My privious unit did not use the condesending word "recalculating" when you did not follow directions exactly. She used to just start telling you what you needed to do to correct your path. For some reason Pioneer felt the need to tell you that you just made a mistake.
Other than that...I am more than happy with this new unit.

I agree with you on these guys, but their videos are what I watched before I finally told Mike the NEX was the stereo I wanted. A little but they do finally get to the point...
