Rear Axle Upgrade

So I am getting the G2 dana 44 complete front axle, 35 spline shafts, with the ARB air locker and 5.13 gears. As of now I plan on keeping my stock dana 44 rear axle and just building it up. Would the ARB air locker, 5.13 gears, and 35 spline shafts all fit into the stock rear 44? What else should I change up with the rear axle other than what I have said. I really appreciate any feedback thank you.

For the price of a new arb locker, 35 spline shafts, and setting up new gears, and then if you're thinking about trussing it, you might as well just buy a new assembled rear g2 44. That being said, I'd seriously also consider a full width axle and figure out your entire build plan before making a decision to do anything to it.

Rear Axle Upgrade

Looks like you have it covered. Just make sure when you order the rear axles you order complete with seal and bearings installed. Otherwise you will have to purchase it all separately and have to have them pressed on. I would also suggest getting a good diff cover for extra support.
BTW. The factory rear is still a heavier axle and housing then your new front Core44.

How do you figure that? 30 or 32 spline shafts vs 35 spline inners, same diameter tubing, thinner tubing, what am I missing?

Rear Axle Upgrade

The factory REAR axle housing is much heavier then the factory front housing and easily as strong the FRONT Core44. If he puts 35 spline axles in the REAR with an ARB he will be as strong or stronger then the Core44 Front. There are a lot of guys out there that run D60 front and factory D44 rear.

Yes the factory rear is stronger than the factory front, but am not aware of any part of it that is stronger than the g2 front 44, unless you have some specifics...

Factory REAR tubes are 3.5” diameter with 0.35” thickness. Core44 front tubes are only 3” 3/8” thick.

If I'm not mistaken the D44 Rubicon and Sport rear tubes are 3.15" OD and 0.25" wall. The Recon I am not sure about.

I kind of did what you did except I went with a PR44 front with RCV's. Built the rear D44 ARB air, 4.88's 35 spline tenfactory shafts. Love it so far after 1 year. Running 37's without issue. Build the rear, if you bend the tubes you can transfer all those internals into a new housing at that time. Good Luck.
